I'm looking at changing my gearbox oil soon I'm just wondering what sort of brands I should be looking at? Cheers:)
-
I used the VW stuff to do mine last week. Amazing difference I think it was the first change @ 92k miles.

Dealer stuff only. Give them your vin number to make sure you get the correct stuff.
-
Millers crx 75 w 90 nt is the best available.
-
I'd say oem for everyday use, Millers for track/fast road use.

I use that Miller's grade in my Scooby and its the bees knees. Great from cold starts to slick gear changes when warmed up.

Presume you guys are reffering to the DSG?

Manual.

Is this what you'd call a "driveway job" or is it best for the dealers/specialist to do?
-
I did mine (6spd manual) in about 10 mins. Need a spline bit for early boxes (16mm) plus a funnel and tubing to get to the fill hole.
Didn't jack the car just parked the near side on the kerb. Dead easy and very satisfying job!

Go for millers, after all VW don't make their own oil, they'll just buy it off millers and write VW on the can!
-
How much oil do I need for 6 speed gearbox in Seat Leon Fr 170 TDi ?
-
As it's been a few years since the last post on this, I was wondering what everyones using for their gearbox oils? Been finding the cold shifts are fairly brutal lately so thought good time to change especially as I doubt it's been done before on my car.
-
Oh I wrote about it elsewhere last year. Basically I went from treacle oem to millers nt to latest thin as piss oem and the latter has been faultless from cold this winter.

Take it you just got the OEM oil from the dealership? Rather than the likes of any G52 - 75W-80?
-
I bought it from Darkside, together with an S3 short shift and their solid bracket bushings.
-
I wanna do mine but Oem from dark side is like £20 per l and we need 3.
-
Is pricey stuff, more than Millers NT, but works much better. Was still getting slow and graunchy gear change from cold with Millers but that totally disappeared with the OEM oil.
-
Same price from a dealer, more if you go to Audi - around £23 a litre I think
Do it once and do it properly - one off cost. You scrimp on oil and you'll regret it as many have done before now

Aftermarket oils are all at least twice as thick at 40 deg C compared to OEM.
Every comment I’ve ever read about said oils is always “Great when warmed up”, which basically means it crap everywhere else.
It’s the same with Hondas, but they just get on with it and put the OEM stuff in. The VAG scene seem to just whine about the price of everything and think VAG have some kind of sinister plot to swindle people. It is what it is and costs what it costs. If MK5 GTI maintenance isn’t affordable, there’s a simple answer for that.
