Just bought a Carbonio 'copy' from ebay - wondered what I should do about the filter (it comes with a K&N).
Is it worth just leaving the OEM filter or is that defeating the whole point of the intake?
Oh and if its worth the change, how likely is it that Mr Clumsy here breaks his engine cover??

I would stay away from K&N, oily filters can cause issues with the MAF
I've got a proper carbonio filter (used) for sale if your interested :-)

Sure the one's that come with the carbonio are pipercross, that or get a ITG or similar.

It's very difficult to remove the cover and very easy to break it, as i've found out!

ITG filter. Your Carbonio-copy (you should buy legit really to support the developers) will have not too much effect without a decent air filter.
If you're scared to change it your VW shoppe will do it at your next service; hand 'em the replacement filter and just say "instead of the paper filter put this in."

Never had a problem with my Carbonio copy and a K&N filter ran it with my map and was getting 305bhp at last years awesome day out so not something i would worry about.

Thanks for the replies guys (and for the link re filter for sale).
Given the relatively small cost difference (and the fact I got this for £85 off ebay (2nd hand), I'm gonna plump for a new ITG filter I think - although not sure I'm brave enough to have a go at wreaking my engine cover yet

Interesting reading.
I ran a K&N in my GTI for a good few miles with no problem. If you clean and re-oil yourself just dont go mad on it - not in case you break the MAF, just you dont need to.
I used a Green cotton filter in my previous LCR and ran that for over 80k miles, cleaning it every 10-15k and never had a problem - basically the same as the K&N except you use green oil instead of red
