What's the best thing to do? Do it privately or go through my insurance?
If I go through my insurance will it put my insurance premium up?
-
Go through insurance as a rain sensor windscreen for one of these is not cheap. Pay your excess. It won't put your premium up. Simples.

Usually it is a £75ish excess and that is it, no affect on your premium. However, some insurance windscreens are not OEM quality.
I think if you want OEM done independently, you still pay your excess, and the insurers pay up to £100ish towards the overall cost (sourcing your own screen and paying a fitter).
Best thing is to check your policy documents!

I had one through my insurance a couple of years back. Excess was £75 I think and have found windscreen claims haven't affected my premium. There are companies out there who will do it for you. I said I wanted a genuine windscreen and the fitter showed me the invoice. Was around 150 I think. Might be wrong as it was a while ago.
