Title: Cooling down, Idle
Post by: Blake-R on October 02, 2009, 10:25:21 am
I'm asking quite a few questions at the moment guys as i have never owned a Turbo based car before and i want to make sure everything is all ok, so if you could bare with me i'd appreciate it  :happy2:.

I have noticed that when the car is idle after a drive, sometimes i get a loud cooling fan noise from the engine, now i know you get this but it sounds very loud compared to my last car. Is this just because it's trying to cool the turbo down more?. Also after a spirited drive do you guys leave your car running for awhile before turning it off? or does this really only apply to bigger turbos?.

Thanks for the help.

Hi mate, the fan on the TFSI is just a noisy beggar lol. Its just the normal cooling fan for the engine you can hear.

After a spirited drive I ALWAYS allow a couple of minutes time at idle to make sure that the turbo has spooled down properly and is kept well lubed.

Hope this helps

Could there really be such a difference between cars? Is yours an Edition 30 or a normal Gti mate?

my cooling running after a switchoff isnt noisey but it aint quiet either!
The cooling system will run with engine off for a few minutes sometimes.
But remember this is 'coolant' not oil side , so its always best to use good quality oil and keep it an low rpm no load for the 5 minutes before home  :happy2:
