its salvageable but i don't think it will look 100%....but the black back wont be seen when fitted to the car anyway! just wanted to know if it was me or if the golf light is just a pain in general haha

Well this is right place to get some advice I have never heard of it but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done.
Why did you want to separate them was there that mystery fly in there :signLOL:

thanks :happy2: ideally i would like to see the state of people's outer case once the lens is removed and once its all been refitted to see how it looks

I split mine to paint the insides, I used a hair drier and a screwdriver to separate them :signLOL:
But yeah, my the channel that the lens fits into was a mess by the end of it, so I just used a hammer and a lot of sealant to make sure it wouldn't leak
You can't see that part of the light with the bonnet down, and it's not greatly noticeable with it open either IMO.

if you've got Xenons, you won't have any luck with putting them in the oven. they used different adhesive from halogen lights (heat makes it soft) vs xenon (heat doesn't make it soft) so you have to dremmel it apart and then pry it. i did it on my OEM xenons. i did it for DRLs though not to paint them but you might find my thread useful. or i could do it for you for a price
have a look at http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,63528.msg705672.html#msg705672 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,63528.msg705672.html#msg705672)
ill take some pics of the light tomorrow if you want with the bonnet open so you can see the join.
