Hi all
Stumbled across this which I am now contemplating doing, and even if I don't I thought it might be use to the growing mk6 group of owners - plus theoretically mk5 owners who have upgraded their climate to the mk6 version
You can change the panel - nice and easy switch over with just a new fascia :happy2:
What do people think style wise - I'm in two minds which I prefer
Current mk6 climatronic
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Foi43.tinypic.com%2F29crkmt.jpg&hash=392988d8d3d5fcc8f81efde3872e3758c8b6e2df)
New mk7 type, slight difference it seems (and late mk6 and other models I believe) climatronic
In this model the hot and cold bars light up too - pics from good old google so thanks to their authors

Thoughts on a postcard

Every thing comes from people with vision - I see a member with vision :congrats:
Let's see it fitted and working!
-
the later one is way better to use, the earlier mk6 one is just not intuitive when you are on the move, the later is more like the mk5 in operation and all the better for it
-
I would love to say it have vision but looks like plenty of people have done it already in Italy and Australia :signLOL:
I didn't even know they had a later version but I agree it does look more like the mk5 which I used to like a lot.
Oddly looking at the mk7 pics most have a rubber around the dials but I rather like the silver - which is also I'm the Passat cc from research
-
Yeah I was going to the same thing, looks like almost a return to mk5 style. I've seen a few Golf convertibles, Sciroccos and CCs with the mk7 climatronic
-
Well if it looks like the MKV that puts me in Vogue for the first time whoop whoop!
-

Have you seen it in the flesh? Looks good quality from the pics

Do you do the hand moves? Lol
On the upside if I did upgrade I could sell my heated seat version current panel and trim - for all those mk5 owners wanting an upgrade
-
-
So where can you get the Mk7 Climatronic panel from?
-
Interestingly just saw that from a seller on eBay - checking though as there seems to be two versions, and one says A/C max and the other Max A/C. Not a big thing but big difference in prices on their page
-
So where can you get the Mk7 Climatronic panel from?
eBay, dealers, bold sport, and also seen one on cars-equipment.com but part number a little different - they gig a few models
-
If you have a look on Bold Sports web page it lists 3 versions. :happy2:
http://www.bold-sport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=288
-
Ok found one. :happy2:
-
I think that the ones without auto recirc have the rubber surround of the knobs and the others have chrome
This eBay dealer is the one I am checking with as has two listing as mentioned in previous post
[ebay]141174833179[/ebay] which is only about £130
[ebay]141081332594[/ebay] which is more like £370 :surprised:
-
Fair play its all fitted but looks out of place in mk5 dash to be honest
-
Looked at doing this a few months back myself..
Whilst the new unit looks like the mk7 version it's quite a bit different fitment wise and is actually originally out of the late model mk6 cabriolet, you can buy the unit and facia panel from the dealers but they are £370 and £16 respectively :surprised:
The ones bold sport sell are Chinese copies as are most of the ones knocking about on the bay but they do seem to work once fitted although the bold sport trim panel colour seems a little off compared to the rest of the dash according to some reports, you'll also need to do a calibration test on the unit once fitted to allow all the functions to work but only takes 5 mins :happy2:
-
Perhaps that is why one of the ones on that sellers site is £370 (part number starts 3AA) and the other only £115. Like you say all the ones I have read about seem to work just fine, which doesn't surprise me as a lot of parts probably come from china anyway even when from a dealer. All the window switches and headlight switches that are now on eBay are perfect so doesn't worry me much
If the trim panel is a little off on the one on eBay / bold sport it's £16 from the dealer then so all good there :happy2:
I really liked the mk5 setup which this is very much like and didn't really like the mk6 one to start with although got used to it now
Could well be ordering one - seller on eBay is in the Netherlands so quicker delivery and no import tax :jumpmove:
Edit: been looking at the cabriolet pics on VW used cars and seems the last couple of years they have had this panel, so should be some used ones out there :)
-
The panel can't really be used in the mk5 as its sposed to poke through the new trim panel not sit flush like mk6, but as the mk7 trim looks identical to mk6 trim then its possible for mk6, also the golf 7 is a totally new car so you have no idea if all the wiring is the same so need to check on totally upto date elsawin first?
With regard to someone saying cheap Chinese copies there not, VW have a partnership with a Chinese state car manufacturer called FAW , so yes lots of bits are made in china for there cars but there by no means cheap copies, there still VW parts just cheaper and stuck on eBay or boldsport for us to buy cheaper.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAW-Volkswagen
-
^^^^
This may explain the different 'AC MAX vs MAX AC' on the right side button. I have noticed some bits from china have a slightly different text and part number
May well go for one as for £130 delivered, ish, it's a good price with the trim
-
The ones from bold sport and various ones on eBay are definitely 'copies' despite any connection VW AG may have with FAW...
The bold sport ones differ in many ways, look at the quality of the rear plug housings, the fact you have to twist your OEM wiring loom through 180' to fit it correctly as they installed the plugs back to front, they are also missing the felt sound deadening strip at the top of the unit where the facia clips rests, no correct VW part numbers or the VW AG holographic 'genuine' parts ID sticker..
Just like the Bold sport mk6 headlight switches that have chrome accents rather than brushed and have the sidelight emblem twisted through 20', cheap replica items..
I'd like to add I have no problem with such items as they generally seem to work ok, but I do have a problem when they are represented as 'Genuine OE VW' parts when they clearly are not :happy2:
There's plenty of OE climate units on eBay.de and the last one I saw went for £80 :happy2:
-
Seen these ones from the bettle which look exactly the same - you guys think it is the same just with a different part number?
[ebay]181253893251[/ebay]
-
When you put the part number 5C0907044N into ETKA (in search APT) it list for all models and brands the item is suitable for but that part number only shows for 2012 Beetle.
It seems to indicate there's something different and requires more checking before purchasing Simon!

Yeah I did wonder as it seemed that way - just saw one in eBay.de but the seller is selling it with the surround for a golf
Would you mind checking what the 3aa variant says car wise, as that is the one most people seem to put in the golf?

3AA907044N - shows nothing but
3AA907044AG - fits -- CC - Eos -Goc -Je - Pa - Sci - Tou
So fits pretty much everything but Beetle.
-
Thanking you kindly :drinking: Looks like something different for some odd reason, better steer clear of the beetle one then :sad1:
Edit: is the 5c0907044B 1KY any different?

Edit: is the 5c0907044B 1KY any different?
Still only shows for Beetle
However,
3AA 907 044 with any of the following endings AF BA BP AG BB BQ AH BC with trim code ZJU ( which is Saturn Black) after the number is what I would be looking for if it's any help .

There is a seller in Germany who is selling the beetle one with the golf trim and he says it worked fine in his golf cabriolet (but AC light wouldn't light up - which is because he didn't do the calibration I think) so tempted to go for it as a good price :chicken:

This world is for the brave but why didn't he do the VCDS calibration if he went to all that expense?
-
In his own words he isn't very technical. I only read about the calibration whilst researching, which you can do on the unit.
Currently asking why he is selling it - but he has confirmed on message that works in his Golf.
Also spoke to VW parts and that one and the 3AA are exactly the same price so no obvious difference there, and picture wise they look identical from the front and back - except that the 5C0 seems to be made in the USA whilst others in Germany so perhaps that has something to do with it. Think they may have come out first on the beetle too
Can't imagine why they would be different, same buttons and function at the end of the day

Thinking out loud it would be wise to check the pins on the drawings incase the air quality sensor is different, since he's telling you it didn't work.
I understand it could be adaption but that would just be to easy!
-
Where would I find the drawings? I read elsewhere about someone who put the 3AA in and the light didnt work until he did the calibration
This chap says the aircon works but button didn't light up, which is the same as one above
Edit: he just replied to say that it displays correctly on his RNS but it needs to be updated which is too technical for him - I think he means for the ac light - get the feeling he's not very technical minded
The choices lol.
-
I'm looking for some wiring diagrams to allow a comparison but nothing yet Will keep looking? :happy2:
-
Well I decided to forgo the cheap Beetle one and have instead plumped for this one (which may or may not be made in China - I care little so long as it works )
Will see what it is like next week and all going well the current unit will be up for sale :happy2:

I take it this unit is just plug and play like the video shows?
-
I would buy as close as you can to your car
(Golf Cabrio, Touran, Passat, beetle)
Golf 7 should be avoided
-

It certainly appears that way, they guarantee it will work 100%, we shall see next week. I'll also do a can before and after to check the coding

This is indeed why I went for this one, which is probably a Chinese made one judging by the price, not that that bothers me. After investigation with doylebros it looks like the beetle wiring diagrams are different so avoided that one, and from why I have read the mk7 uses competely different electronics so off the menu :)
-
Well after some mail delay (me not being in mainly) the parts have arrived today. Came in a genuine VW box and I can confirm that I have been sent the 5C0 one which is the beetle one - apparently pretty-coded using vcds - we shall see when I fit it tomorrow. Came with a genuine surround too, plus as he was late in posting he sent a few gift - so if anyone wants an RLine badge for free let me know :)
-
Follow up: put it in this morning, nice and straight forward and everything works and appears on the rns like it should so happy days :happy2:
-
Fast work! Any pictures of the completed install?

Yep here it is. The knobs have a nice well made feel to them and a definite click feel when turning

Looks good. What's the colour match like on the trim? Looks a bit off around the RNS but dunno if that's due to lighting/photo.
-
Yeah looks good seems to suit the interior well!
-
Pleased it worked out for you Simon - what about any adjustments in basic settings and how did your scan come back after the mod?

Colour match is spot on from what I can tell, probably the light as the climate is inset more than the rns

Thanks :happy2: looks nice at night, did take a pic with the iPad but doesn't come out well, can upload if people want to see

Well, I was a bit worried when I scanned as it showed faults with the temperature sensors in the footwells and the evaporator vent (and oddly an intermittent fault with the light and rain sensor) However after doing the basic flap settings in vcds and rescanning I now get no faults.
also had an intermittent communication fault with the back-up camera module which has also gone now. It's also probably due to the leaking rear wash hose I had to fix last weekend - and when I mean leaking I mean ruddy great split in the cheap hose VW use :fighting:
-
Sorry to hear your probs simon, but that climate panel really does look nice mate. Would love to see it in a mk5 has it does look very similar in its design.
I bet your over the moon with that mate we'll done.

Thanks morty, all well in the end
It does look nicer I think than the original one, although havin the heated seats on the dials was a nice touch on the last one.
I have seen pics in a mk5 as they put this inn the late scirocco I believe which uses the same fascia trim as the mk5 :)
-
Bit of a night time shot - poor quickie iPhone pic but you get the idea
