Afternoon folks,
After doing the weekly shop and had loaded the car, i walked round the car to check for trolley damage. Something in the rear passenger window caught my eye. I opened the door and looked closer:

checked the rear passenger door and was greeted with:

Before people start questioning my personal hygiene, i can honestly say the mold/fungi is a recent thing! It looks proper minging and just as freaked as the rest of you!
Im guessing all the rain we've had these few weeks has caused a high level of condensation to form on the inside of the glass (i have the factory insulated / tinted glass).
There are no leaks into the cabin, carpets are pretty dry, sunroof isn't blocked and the pollen filter is just over a year old.
Firstly, could members with 5 doors also check their rear door windows to see if they have any similar sort of infestation?
Can anyone suggest a safe and effective way to deal with the fungi / fungus / mold?
Cheers
Rich

I was thinking that but its on both rear doors (im not saying its not possible that both seals have gone, im hoping its unlikely!)

I have a 5 door matey and have the exact same problem. The mould want there when I bought it. No idea what causes it.
-
I have it on my more door. No way near as much as yours though! All my glass is original factory.

Same, both rear doors but not as bad as yours.

My old mk4 5 door did this too - no idea why, as the seals were perfectly good. No sunroof, etc. Anyhow - the Valet Pro enzyme eater is a good product - I recommend it.

Hi Mate,
After cleaning the fungi / mold, i purchased a car dehumidifier bag which seemed to help http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000XUPEJY?keywords=car%20dehumidifier&qid=1442300884&ref_=sr_1_16&sr=8-16 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000XUPEJY?keywords=car%20dehumidifier&qid=1442300884&ref_=sr_1_16&sr=8-16) but doesnt get rid of the problem completely.
Thanks
Rich

Did you source the leak?

I've seen this before and it was traced to water Ingress via the boot handle and tailgate wiring banjos, allowing pooling of water in the spare wheel well and damp in the C pillars.
Once the handle seal was replaced and all areas cleaned and dried out no more problem - worth a look in the boot space.

Thanks for the replys .
I got myself a dehumidifier bag a while back and seems to help a bit.
Though of course I still have the problem !
I'm getting water sitting in the corner of the rear windows when it's been rainy heavy.. Or washing ,I'm thinking it might be door seals.?
Not heard about the boot handle before , this is starting to take away the Joyment of this car .. :sad1:
My garage is having a look at it on Friday . ( got MOT too .. Wish me luck .)

Yes I had a Clifford G5 fitted in 2010 the dick heads who fitted it drilled under the scuttle panel for the siren wiring ect Water leaked in over time and killed the alarm...
Had it removed and the holes filled in with lots of sealant, been ok since and its been over 18 months!

Funnily enough, I thought the exact same thing with mine. Has Clifford fitted and drilled same place and I went back to the installers.... Turned out it wasn't the problem at all.... My sunroof drain tubes had disconnected and coincidentally spilled out at the exact same point as the hole was drilled!

I cannot see any methods of how to get rid of mildew, except that everyone says that the issue is solved? One question: what exactly did you do? I'm tired of fighting with mildew in my car. I have absolutely no idea how it appeared there in the first place. I’ve tried a lot of different things I’ve read online about. I even tried to use the ozone generator ones. I helped me for a while, but after I’ve read how dangerous it can be, I regret using it. I’ve read online on damagecontrol-911.com (https://www.damagecontrol-911.com/killing-bugs-and-mold-with-ozone-generators/) that can kill all living species, including humans. So, I’m not going to touch that thing again. Hopefully, one of these methods will help me.

Silica gel packs
Run the aircon
Sacks of rice
Drive the car with the windows open
Trace the source of water ingress
Soak the window frame rubbers with silicon maintenance spray
Many things to try.
