Post by: fransnz on February 24, 2014, 06:52:32 pm
Hi guys anyone have any ideas, lights on the dash come up randomly and then go off when the car is turned off (sometimes) have checked the brake lights work as some looking on the net said it might be the brake switch. Please help

Thanks

Do you loose power when this happens? as if the car has gone into limp mode?

When the pec light is on yes it goes into limp mode, but not when the engine light is on by itself.

How did you check for fault codes as if you get an epc light a fault code should be stored in the ecu.

Sounds like it could be the throttle body.

With mine te EPC light would come on and ESP go off (light on) and loose power then the engine light might come on and ten they would eventually clear and all is fine til they come back. Mine started with them coming on and clearing after turning it off but then happened more frequently.

Best to get it scanned as te fault code will be stored

New throttle body, cost ~£400 but before you start throwing money at it get it scanned with VCDS

Had it scanned the first time the lights came on but no codes since then.
The codes were

Nodz, what did you try before you went for the throttle body, so far I have only replaced the dump valve (had a huge hole in the diaphragm)

If you can come south London Crystal Palace I can scan if for you mate.  :happy2:

The 1st one I think is related to the DV. did they rescan after replacing the DV and what DV version did you replace it with?

Does the last comment say "code reset advised"

The valve was 06f145710g and I scanned it with a reader I got online and no faults on that. The codes were reset.

I spoke to Alex at AKS and said he thinks it was the TB with the symptoms I was having and then took the car to him which he scanned and replaced and has been fine since I'll dig my thread out with my symptoms

Did you do a throttle body basic setting with vcds post TB install?

Prerequisites:
Ignition ON
 Engine OFF
System voltage at least 11.0 V.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Basic Settings - 04]
 Group 060
[Go!]
 Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

 Switch Ignition OFF.

Car came up with 5 pages of fault codes on the vw software rig........ Vcds didn't pick any of that up
