Title: Door mirror
Post by: suave on February 25, 2014, 12:50:49 pm
Folks

The plastic trim removal tool needed to remove the door mirror glass - is it generic or do i need a specific shaped tool?

I have seen sets online - would they be ok for mirror removal?

Thanks

Hi there,

No specific shape required but from experience the wider the better.  I have a Facom set of plastic trim tools covering a variety of widths which have been great for all the trim removals on my GTI I've need to do so far.

Hope this helps.

I use these and have had no problems with them:-

When I installed my darker coloured mirror indicators I didn't use a tool, just used my fingers.
Set the mirror so the gap between it and the mirror cover at its outer side is at max (mirror turned in towards the car). That should give you sufficient gap to get you fingers below the mirror and gently prise it out.

Thanks. What about the other bits - torx screws etc - did it come apart easily?

The mossy stuff in mine is driving me mad
