Title: Side impact sensor
Post by: J12spk on February 28, 2014, 05:30:29 pm
Guys, got an airbag light on. Had a scan as it's showing intermittent fault on drivers side crash impact sensor. Guna order a new sensor but before I rip the car apart, can any1 tell me the part number and location...........

Thanks

James

Yes its under door skin mate, plus it may not be sensor wire might be nearly broke between car and door?

its the blue sensor in the middle of the door

I'd also check the wiring in the door bellows, done 2 cars now (mk5 golf and an Octavia vrs) that had airbag lights on with the side crash sensor showing as the cause in VCDS, both were due to broken wiring within the door to body loom  :happy2:

Check the scan and if the number matches this may help but I feel the last posters comment would be my first choice!

If it is the sensor 1K0 955 557 B - £51:76 full retail inc vat

Or this may be better route

Second that. My door lock doesn't always unlock using the remote and it looks like i have a couple of broken wires in the loom. I have yet to order one but i know its going to set me back £80ish to replace it  :fighting:

its only ever going to be in the rubber bellows, so i'd just patch new cables in between say 8 inches in the door and the plug, solder it all up job done, no need for new loom mate

Cheers guys, I've got no problems with locking or anything else! The light came on randomly, reset on vagcom then lasted a week a came back on. Is that a sign of damaged wires or dodgy sensor? Is it best to remove the outer skin or can it be done from the inside with the door card off?

You won't ever know without deduction,  you need to get wires checked first, cheapest option, then if OK its the sensor

You need to remove both really, door card off to drill out rivits then skin off to get to either the wires or sensor
