I've got a set of Cupra brakes ready to put on my car, and notice they are quite heavy. Can someone who has had these fitted comment on how these effect the handling / ride quality of the car as obviously there is an increase of unsprung weight??
-
They are very heavy as they are HUGE!!!
The s3 brakes that went on my leon are the same, and I had the same worries but there was no noticable difference.
Very occasionally when going over a pothole I think its more of a thud but thats probably just the car getting looser
-
The cupra and s3 both come with aluminium front arms instead of the nasty steel ones found on other models.
These can be retrofitted to reduce unsprung weight.
Its probably not a coincidence these models both have the 345mm brakes.
Not sure if the R32 has these??
-
i weighed my s3 calipers and the original gti ones and they where the same weight, the s3 calipers are half aluminium and the gti ones are completely iron. the s3 discs are heavier though. i never noticed at all, appart from now my brakes are sh@t hot instead of plain sh@t.
do the cupra and r32 calipers have the weighted bobbin on them?
-
what does that bobbin do?
-
what does that bobbin do?
lol dunno but its there for something
-
I wondered that myself but chose to forget about it
There was some s3 ones for sale in the classifieds recently that didnt have the bobbin.
-
Whats the bobbin for and what does it look like?

Lol there is a bit more clearance between your calipers and wheels than on mine.
Managed to squeeze them under my 17,s.
