Title: Avoid front wing rust, remove the sponge on inside of the wing
Post by: Melkiy on March 01, 2014, 03:02:18 pm
Well started getting proper rusty on one side, question "why?"
Big massive sponge on inside full of water even tho I didn't drive it for a week.
Care for your golf? Don't want rust? Take your arch cover off and pull the stupid sponge out before it gets to late.

Well rolled arches and what I fined there wasn't very nice

I also shaved a few mm off the outside edge of the arch liners. This stops them rubbing the arch which lets the moisture from the sponge attacking the metal
Don't forget to empty the sill behind the mud flap location  :happy2: I do this every few months especially at this time of year

Is it as simple as just pulling the sponge out or do you have to cut it out etc? Do you suggest trimming the arch liner even if sponge is completely removed?

Thanks

Dot that as well, started getting rust on the rail under wing. Thank god there was just small mark coming so I took the cover off and omg it was full  :surprised: Jet wash did well. I think ill car the bottom of it off so it won't stay there anymore as at the moment it's like a pocket for dirt to stay :)
