Title: Plan
Post by: zenicman9 on March 05, 2014, 11:26:14 am
Hey

So time has come I am going for a GT TDI and I am going to make it mine over the next year or so.

Ideally I'd want to make it run quicker than the Leon so I don't regret it.

Does anyone know roughly what is needed to make a 140 or 170 run over 230bhp?

I know it will need a remap so this isn't need to highlight.

Is this you who started 1000000 threads on the seatcupra forum?

I think you'd need a bigger turbo/hybrid turbo to make it as fast as the leon.

OR

get a GTI and save yourself the money that you'd waste on modding a tractor?

ahahah yeah but would I spunk like £90+ a week in fuel in the GTI just to have fun?

Spoke to a few lads I know who have GTI's and say they get around 20mpg when the have fun and spend around £70 fuel

Exactly, FUN.

Otherwise why mod your diesel? Do you mod that so you can have fun?

It'll cost a lot of money to get the 140bhp engine to 220bhp i think

Yeah the Diesel is fun just not on corners :) it spunks most hot hatchs and costs peanuts in fuel

Remap will take it to 180bhp-ish.

Anymore than that will require a bigger turbo I think

I might just pick a car out of a hat and stick to it haha

I have plenty or fun in my tractor. Surprises a few petrol boys and I have no issues with handling either.

According to the Superchips website just a remap on the 170BHP one will get you to 197BHP whilst also giving slight gains on fuel economy:

http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=38&fueltype=2&model=159&variant=1726

As for people thinking you can't have fun in a diesel?  This isn't 1990 anymore I have just as much fun in my 140bhp TDI as I've had in any petrol I've owned (although thats not really a highlight reel haha) whilst still getting 40-50mpg.  I probably would have a petrol GTI if I didn't have to commute for work but not everyone has that luxury.

In the OP he asked about either the 170 or the 140, hence why I used the 170 as it'd be easier to get to 220BHP, however a 140 with a remap from the same place goes to 177BHP IIRC from when I looked at getting mine done.

Derv units can be fun, plus the shunt of torque is quite addictive at times! For a 140BHP unit, remapping gets you roughly between 170-190 BHP depending on the engine, a stock 170BHP should break the 200BHP barrier easily on its first remap. My Uncle's 140BHP unit was Revo mapped and ran 190BHP on the dyno. That was before he added the Milltek exhuast so it's probably touching standard GTI territory now. For more power and you probably looking changing a few things like the intakes, clutch and others.

Best of all it costs peanuts to run, I can't believe I pay £200 to tax my lathargic 1.6 compared to £140 for his torque monster.  :sad1:

Yes it might be the same BHP but it'll still be a second slower lol

may as well get a pretrol imo. Yeah it will cost more in fuel but so will modding your 140bhp car.
