The brakes are awesome mate! :notworthy: Mr Hurditch on the other hand is a loon of the highest order! :surprised: :scared:
It wasn't the kitty litter I was worried about, it was the boot lid of the three series track sl*g we were attached to for half the lap that was keeping my foot planted in the mats! :rolleye:
-
lol, my trip out with the morning of RWYB at the pod if you remember lives long in my memory, god knows what he was like on the Ring being able to blast his car!!. His car feels epic i must say.
Judging by the way your seated in that photo, your feel must of being loosing feeling pressing the invisable pedals!!
Be good to join you next year if another trips planned.

Anyone wanna declare any lap times, or was the weather wet on both days?
The only timed lap Flora did for me was very damp with rain coming down and we came across an Alfa that had just rolled and a recovery truck in the middle of the track and that was a 9:49 :happy2:
The rest were pretty wet so were in the mid 11's :scared:
-
thats a a good time in wet mate :happy2:

I have to be honest I didnt know who he was, but I do now! :notworthy:
....I met and had a chat with him at Spa. I didn't know who he was either! He's got a yellow Ford GT40.

Glad to see you made it back safe and sound RR! :happy2:

Glad to see you made it back safe and sound RR! :happy2:
.... :drinking: Got back about half-an-hour ago. The day at Spa was by far my favourite - Had an instructor in my passenger seat and did about 15 laps (lost count!) in one hit in the wet with ESP off. I couldn't believe some of the cars I nailed as I had the right tyres for the day.
-
ha ha, piss rain and everyone on 888s? :signLOL:

Umm! Pure sex. Nice to see a mk6 gti too.
JPC, were you bribing all these drivers or something?

Anyone wanna declare any lap times, or was the weather wet on both days?
Hahahaaaa
The madman returns
My slowest was 10.35 in the wet with 4 up and the TOYO R888's :scared:
My fastest two laps of the day were 9.10 with Nathan in and my first ever lap when it was only damp.
First ever lap was epic with 2 porkers and 2 fezza 360's getting a new ass ripped. :driver:
Spa Francourchamps was monumentally good, only spoilt by rain in the afternoon, but that didn't stop me doing another 8 laps in it.
If you thought that the Nurburgring had some machinery there, wait till I get my Spa pics up . Even a NASCAR racer was there :jumping: soooooo fast.

OHHH YESH!!
Well done Spa lads, that looks like epic fun. Really want to drive that soon!
How many times did your brain tell you NO NO NO when someone was telling you to keep it planted in Eau Rouge?
The trip looked great, hopefully our paths will all cross on the one next year :drinking:

Urban myth (unless you are Schumacher). If I'd done that I'd be wearing wings and a halo now!
You at least have to dab the brakes as you hit the compression at the bottom of Eau Rouge otherwise you have a 150mph off camber crest and bend to negotiate at the exit :scared: Even at 120mph it is damn scary!
-
^^^^
As Hurdy says - It's a total urban myth. You should brake just before the first left hand apex, drop down to 3rd and then floor it. Not carry all your max speed into the bottom of Eau Rouge because you'll then find yourself in a potentially dangerous mess at the top of the hill when that blind lefthand apex suddenly appears. It's more logical but not as effective to carry as much speed as you can into that steep hill but our cars have enough power to accelerate up it. I'm saying this with the benefit of having an instructor on board for a long session of about 15 laps.
-
Yes, that's what I mean - entering at the correct speed and then keeping your foot in through the compression, when the car is doing all sorts of strange things and your brain is saying AAAGGHHHH!!!...
Kinda like Foxhole at the Ring, lift/brake and you lose it, you've got to commit no matter what speed you're doing once you're in it.
I wasn't suggesting you keep it flat from the straight!!
-
Ahh, I see....my bad :happy2:
-
Nah, I should have explained better....
Such a fricking rush though, I'll bet!!! I've got that washingmachine tummy just thinking about it.
-
Well done guys for doin Spa.. It's an amazing track(even just to spectate as we were).
We called there on the journey back from the ring this year also.. :happy2:

They are great pics chaps! :notworthy: I do wish I could have joined you!
So you managed to keep all four wheels on your wagon then John? :scared:

Personally I prefer Spa to The Ring. I think it's because it's easier to learn and most importantly it's not full of every idiot trying to do a lap time irrespective of what they are driving or their ability. Too many go there for the wrong reasons - IMO.
One of the guys in our group was a very nice chap but a retired London double decker bus driver, was absolutely horrified by Hurdy's driving as a passenger (he is far safer than his reputation might be and is very focussed) and nearly took me out by not using his mirrors on the way there!
-
Are you saying Mr Hurditch is a sunday driver Robin
Your car looks the Mutz Nutz Robin. She looks absolutely fantastic, and you may well be responcible for alot of people changing their alloys

Robin, obviously this is your opinion and I cannot argue with that but I find your comment rather bizzare to say the least! You go to the Ring for your first ever track experience and love it! So much so you have it in your sig and buy some 'track focused' alloys. You then do you first ever track day at a more conventional circuit then you rubbish the Ring for everything it stands for?
Not everyone can afford a track day at Spa but can afford the odd lap at the Ring. And that is the reason the place has the unique atmosphere it does. On one hand you can have a 120k Porsche and on the other a 20 year old Astra, and for me that is part of the magic of the place.
Don't be too quick to dismiss the place as it has a very special place in many peoples hearts. Yes you get the odd moron there but you do so in all walks of life. :happy2:
-
^^^^ :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Very very well said Nathan :happy2:
-
Please do not slag the ring off :fighting: u are talking about 13 miles of some of the most stunning and very well respected track in the world :fighting: its a great place to see all types of cars and drivers there and it does not cost the earth to do it like spa so please dont coment on a track we all know and love :drinking:

Mr Hurditch is a natural. Fast but focussed.
I'm well pleased with the alloys and will write my review tomorrow.

.....
No, guys, I'm not trashing The Ring as the world famous unique track that it is but I am saying that I think it would be a whole lot better if it was more controlled. Do you honestly not mind full size coaches on The Ring?
Anyway, I am entitled to my preferences whether some of you here agree with me or not. I prefer driving Spa to The Ring but will be going to both whenever possible, particularly as they are so close to each other. I said I preferred Spa and not that I didn't like The Ring so why be so defensive, Nath, Mat, SteveP etc?
-
I think it was more to do with your description of the people who use the Ring that I object to Robin.
There are not many cost effective ways to take your car on a marshalled high speed circuit so this will always attract a cross section of people. :happy2:
-
the ring is a toll road hence y anyone can go on and drive it for a small fee ie its not like a track day
-
I think it was more to do with your description of the people who use the Ring that I object to Robin.
....But I wasn't saying that everybody who uses The Ring fits my description - Just that there are more than I would personally prefer to see. The crashes and their frequency speak for themselves without further elaboration from me.
There are not many cost effective ways to take your car on a marshalled high speed circuit so this will always attract a cross section of people. :happy2:
....I don't form my opinions or preferences based on cost effectiveness. Cost effectiveness is entirely down to the individual to decide for themselves.
-
I must admit that the 'ring is fantastic and a great iconic place to be, however Spa as a trackday had the edge for me, if you could have all been there too it would have made it perfect.
The fact that the 'ring shuts down for so long after an accident and has so many is mainly due to it's size and lack of run off space. I have no doubt in my mind that there would have been quite a lot of near misses at Spa that would have been accidents if it didn't have the run off spaces and conversely the 'ring would be better if it had the run off space that Spa had. That isn't to say that Spa didn't have any accidents on the day as it did have at least 4 write-off accidents that I can remember on the day we were there.
-
One just for the Hurd(ring)Meister.....................

That is the ring............. The atmosphere, walking up to a chap and talking about his 120k porker, and him being so enthusiastic, and then chatting to the Astra driver who has a grin the size of a Cheshire cat, who has left some some far more track focused machinery in his wake . Magic! :happy2: :happy2:

....Yes, Mr Balloon, that certainly is something which contributes greatly to the atmosphere of The Ring - But this weekend I preferred my day at Spa. I mean this from a driving point-of-view and I agree that the shared enthusiasm with people met in the 'paddock'/carpark is absolutely great - But I find the same happens anywhere where like-minded enthusiasts gather, if you are outgoing and friendly enough - It's just more international and varied at The Ring.
I expect that my next visit to The Nordschleife, from a driving on a circuit pov, will be more enjoyable - Socially I had a very varied and interesting group of people to share time with there with The Nurburgring Experience. My intentions are to combine it with another trackday at Spa if possible - Such a combination is the best of both worlds IMO.
So when are you going to take your car to The Ring?
-
the ring is very special and a challenge, you have to keep going back to master it and you know you never will, track days on conventional circuits seem very boring ( hence the mx5 for me to try make them more fun), i understand the coach thing, but to someone lappin fast a 911 can be in the way, there is always someone faster so no a coach does not bother me, as for the accidents, im yet to go on a track day and not see someone crash, just more visable at the ring due to no run off. matter of taste, not just to get a sticker!!!
-

....Absolutely! :happy2: - You're only going to 'master' it if you live next door to it and do literally thousands of laps.
As both you and Hurdy are saying: No run-offs at The Ring. Large coaches do bother me. I think the solution would be to have a fixed time for only tourist coaches to go round, but I'd rather see them banned.
As I already said, I like both the Nordschleife and Spa and loving one doesn't mean that one doesn't also love the other! (contrary to how some people here wish to interpret* my posts). Personally I gained a lot of confidence in my car's capabilities from my instructor laps at Spa and that will increase my enjoyment of The Ring next time.

^ I don't know what this is but it's very elegant :notworthy:
dont need to live next door, lots of uk residents have done well over 3000 plus laps, like i said got to keep going back, spoke to one lad who had done over 7000!!!!! mind you he could do a 7:20 in a csl :notworthy:
-
Over sensitive reactions eh Robin!
You do make me laugh!
Know one said you didn't like the Ring anymore, it was just your blatant change in attitude that suprised me! Anyway lets just let sleeping dogs lie now as you don't want to upset all of the admin team on here! :happy2:
-
That is the ring.............
Next forum trip will either see my Car or bike on the ring. This time, i spent a fair bit of time fixing cars, rectifying (lack of attention) mistakes after work had been carried out prior to departure, at reputable tuners.
Give you a pillion on the roads around the ring RR? Up for it? :driver:
-
Ha ha ha!
Well, this soon decended into farce, eh?
I'm gonna find that post... that "I'm not going to bother ever wasting my time on a circuit, they do nothing for me" type post and have a chuckle to myself.
Bless you, Robin. You made what I think was intended as a simple statement very difficult for yourself there. You're allowed to change your mind, remember, it happens.
-
Give you a pillion on the roads around the ring RR? Up for it? :driver:
....Thankyou but No Thankyou! Pillion rides simply don't appeal to me.
I'd have been gagging to drive on the Nordschleife if without a car on the first visit, let alone a second visit.
-
One the first visit i was asked and gladly accepted, on the 2nd visit I was asked and again gladly accepted. I enjoyed the company and banter on both occasions, and enjoyed mooching about the paddock. The next time howeevr my car or bike will accompany.
I enjoy helping people, and if i can assist i will, and whilst assisting on both occasions, i saw an awful lot of true petrolhead exotica, so win win on both accounts.
i don't look at it from what I can gain, purely on what i do to assist others, whilst enjoying myself. if you talk to Steve, and nath, I did work on both their cars, and would do the same again.
My turn next time.
:happy2:

:happy2:
....Yes, there's always a joy in helping others. I had the joy of helping you by giving you a free* ride on your first visit and this time I was able to help Hurdy by giving him a very much needed wheel nut. But it is possible to help others and gain things for yourself. I'm sure you'll still be able to assist others when you take your car/bike with you next time.
:happy2:
*EDITED to explain that "free" ride meant no contribution for fuel was asked for, as some people may not have understood my post. I think we all help each other in various ways when we can and irrespective of whether it's in a big or a small way.

i would have asked for fuel, your a better guy than me red
-
Glad to see you all made it back without anything bent, looks like you had an cracking weekend, some great pics at the Ring and the shots of Eau Rouge are epic :happy2:.
I've often wondered how many laps of the Ring you would have to do before you really knew what was coming next, how many corners are their
Its true to say what ever track your at its always a great atmosphere and if your a bit of a petrolhead it doesn't matter what your driving you all have something in common.
Defo next year

Defo next year
....You'll be in good company, Neil. I'm sure you realise that there will always be friends who'll look after your wheelchair while you're on the Nordschleife.

I am afraid that puking at any time is a sign of weakness, and not condoned at anytime. Not that i will ever admit to puking. Especially after a night on tequila (for night - read started drinking at 8:30pm and finishing at 10:30pm, after many many Margherita's) went down really well with the ex her indoors and her parents.

Steph snores loud, plus I'm that exhausted I can't sleep!
@ nath. I did a full days work today and barely took any photos. I'm struggling to capture the swirls in the sprint blue. I think it would be a worthy investment to take some proper lessons in photography. Yeh,so basically I dont think my write up will be as good as normal. I shouldget some pretty tasty after shots tomorrow though.

^^^^
Was that blue Ford which got written off in front of Dino, a RS or ST?
I was too busy avoiding the debris!
-
It was of the St variety I think.
-
I heard it was a 3 day old RS?
Certainly looked like the remainder of an RS when I passed it :sad1:
-
^^^ The only blue RS I saw was the one that was couple of days old (who you upset in the morning ) that was staying at our hotel. I am sure I saw him leaving the circuit in one piece at the end of the day
-
Ye I'm sure the written off on was an st. There was two blue rs' running around, one from our hotel and the other was a Belgian one. They both made it off circuit ok. I think it was an english guy who wrote his focus off

any pics yet boyo!!>?>? :booty:

Haha thanks john! I've been struggling with pinacle ultimate 12. It's a video editting studio but it's very slow and unreliable. Trying to get adobe elements 8 familiar now. Any other or better editting software!?
That gives you.....

wet laps of the ring, brave, only done it once in the wet and it was interesting. makes you drive well though
-
^^^^
I found to my surprise that I quite like the wet but much more so in the wet at Spa where I was lucky enough to have an instructor in my passenger seat for a 15-lap session and with ESP Off. I get very good feedback from my car's setup and the Quaife really helps.

Hold on line Robin I've just found one of you!

Here you go Robin.....Just catching up to an R8

i think you can take hard drives to pc world for data retrieval? just a thought....unless youve far to much porn on there and so cant
-
nah no porn mate! its encrypted so i cant! ive put about 15 hours in trying to recover it but its not going to happen! :( booo!
every detailing photo ive taken....gone! :(
-
ow dude now that sucks, ive lost vital data before now like that, i backup on everything all the time now, data keys are handy for this per project as well as hard drives as duplicate backups. belt and braces so to speak
not that that helps you any :sad1:
-
ive got the keys to the encryption which is the annoying thing! so annoying

i know this is wildly off topic, but... why did you encrypt detailing photos? you been waxing the Batmobile?
-
it was a whole disk encryption jobbie! its all Dom T's fault! haha!
there was basically every photo ive ever taken on there, holiday pics etc. family stuff. didnt want any access to it on our network, or if it was unplugged. trouble came about when i went from XP to windows 7. Master boot record decided to sh*t itself!
-

....No, he's been waxing Robin, but don't tell anyone.
Seriously though, I'm gutted to read this Jay. You'll be able to download whatever pics/images you have previously uploaded to servers such as photobucket and those you've posted on forums but that's not everything unfortunately.
Time to invest in a big external hard drive - Mine auto backs-up every hour.

that's exactly what it was. An external hdd that backs everything up. Thing was I upgraded windows xp to windows 7 which required a fresh install. Ah well... Life goes on! Just a shame the pics of the last 7 years!
