Post by: jakex181 on March 05, 2014, 07:10:30 pm
Im getting a belt slipping sound under acceleration, only happens in a certain range. Would this be the aux belt? what can i do to stop it?

hmm mine is a constant sound that always happens at the same rpm range, could it be anything else? is there anyway to test the pulleys on the car? it only makes the sound when driving :/

Take aux belt off and see if that cures it then work from there.

Im not sure how to remove the belt so ive taken some videos of the belts with the engine running, i also noticed today that the cam belt cover has been worn away and also snapped perhaps from previous removal. Is there anything obvious that can be seen from these videos? also ive attached pictures of the cam cover.

I just removed the belt and tried spinning the alternator pulley to test the clutch mechanism and it is fine, how can i check the tensioner? is there anything else that could make this sound when accelerating?

The alternator pulley fault for me was intermittent as for the tensioner you'll know if that's finished when you spin it by hand - feels rough and whines.

Hi all, @jakex181 can you describe the sound ? I've had a what I can describe as a hi pitched squeal and it always happens at 2000-2250rpm in second or third gear ? Does that sound similar ? It's annoying and needs looked at, just wondering if this could be the pulley clutch ? It is slightly intermittent like doylebros says. @ doylebros the tensioner is that the aux belt tensioner your referring to ? Cheers

Yes the aux belt tensioner was what I was referring too!

This alternator clutch noise was coming and going for weeks but couldn't pin point it so just fitted the part - now no more intermittent noise - by the way I bought the tool which made it an easy install!

Sorry for the late reply, yes my issue happens during the same rev range. am i best taking it to a garage or should i change the tensioner and belt?
