Title: Front plate magnets
Post by: Adam-golf on March 05, 2014, 08:53:44 pm
I'm currently having my front bumper sprayed so I have the front centre section off. I've smoothed the number plate holes so I'm looking to put magnets behind it to make my plate easy to un-attach.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding magnets that will be strong enough to hold it in place.

Does anybody know any where that would stick them, and if so which to go for.
Any advice welcome

Get yourself some of these for the bumper and number plate, better if you have uk legal metal plate to bend slightly around the grill.

EBay

Excatly what I was looking for!

What did you's use to stick them with? And what backing did you use on the plate to cover the magnets?

^ pretty much same as this.

Although i also used some foam,

When i did my original plate i cut circles in the foam where the magnets were then put another layer over the magnets to make it less noticeable.

I always carry 2 plates, 1 with the magnets and 1 with double sided suction cups. Out of the 2 the sucker one causes less scratching on my uber expensive smoothed grill. I always carry the second one in the boot if/when I lose or mislay the other.

Suction...

Think I'll put the suckers on my normal plate and buy some pressed for the magnets.

Did you get the same magnets as the ones mentioned above?

^^^^ Get some N35 magnets. 20mm x 3mm is more than fine. Youll need at least 12 (I used 16), 6 or 8 for the plate and also 6 or 8 for the reverse side of the grill.
