Title: VW Soundpack - Amp output?
Post by: john87 on March 06, 2014, 12:46:49 pm
I've recently went back to a mk5 and this one has the 10 speaker set-up with the under-seat amp.

Does anyone know where I can find out the specification of this amp (output in RMS, etc) as I find the (albeit uprated) are not much of an improvement over standard and the increased bass simply causes the doors to rattle like hell  :jumping:

I'm going to look to upgrade the front speakers and stick some soundproofing in while I'm there.

Any info would be welcomed.

Cheers John

iirc it's 25W output per channel.

to be honest, sound deadening the doors and also using 3-5mm CCF (closed cell foam) between door structure and inner door cover/skin.

Will already make a HUGE improvement on the way it sounds.
Further improvements can be made upgrading the Radio from an RCD300/500 to RCD510.
This alone is a worthwhile improvement.

Once you have the rattles sorted, you should be happy.

Thanks folks, yeah I've already upgraded to the RNS510 but have the bass set at less than half way
due to the amount the front doors rattle. The mk6 on comparison had a much better sound due to the bass speaker location and improved door construction, back in a mk5 and all is well apart from the rattling doors!

very interesting, my front doors have no rattles at all on my newly acquired GTI.
Sounds to me like not all the clips are back in place.

the location on the MK6 are much better than our mk5's. However, if we use 3 way's in the front of our cars as per OEM.
Then we have the advantage, due to midbass crossed over on a low enough frequency, the midbass location would not really make much difference.

..forgot to ask, do you have any recommendations for CCF, as in decent well-priced stuff?

I've got a fair amount of the tar sheeting left over from a few years ago so that covers the panel deadening..

No sorry, I just bought some locally to me.
Went to a rubber place. Everything they sell is made of rubber.

Otherwise failing that, there is dynaliner or similar products available.

Hope this helps
