After having my remap done and now having a large amount of torque its highlighted the need for premium tyres.(previous owner put sava tyres on the front) The BMW forum i used to be on raved about good year asymmetric 2 tyres.
What are your thoughts on the best tyres?
-
You'll find equally on this forum that many recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 as well. The Michelins Pilot Sport 3 (PS3) get rave reviews as well but pricey though.
-
I'll put my vote in for assy 2's,
I don't know if they're THE BEST but certainly excellent and not the most expensive.
Also - I have 2 Michelin PS3's and 2 assy 2's on my car. Personally prefer the goodyears (although the michelins are a couple of years old so probably not fair to compare them to brand new goodyears
-
Assy 2's for me as well :happy2:
-
If you can get a set of michelin pilot sport 3s, you will not fit anything else.

cheers, I cant just plant the accelerator down anymore without the wheels spinning up especially in 2nd but surely better tyres will help. At the moment even 3rd in the dry spins and to some degree this is probably due to the tyres.
-
obviously post remap i need to change the way i use the right pedal as its now mental

I agree with the above

What about the Michelin Pilot Super Sport ones?

Still no stock in 225 40 18 XL

Never had super sports but only here positives from them. Currently using dunlop sportmaxx and they dont feel as grippy as the pilot sports, but they came with the alloys

I had 4 Michellin PS3's fitted yesterday 225/40/18 92Y @ £122 a corner.
Not as pricey as people say if you can find the right supplier. In my case, my local VW dealer price matched my usual tyre fitter (and saved me a 20 mile drive to my parents town where the tyre shop is based).
-
I have the F1 assy2 as standard on my Focus ST250 in the dry they are brilliant but they are summers tyres only and if its damp and cold outside they are dam right scarey, I can spin up in 4th gear if theres even the slightest of damp on the roads. I will definitely change to either uniroyal rainsport 2 or michelin ps3?
Some one mentioned Dunlop Sportmaxx RT's?? but never used Dunlop so not sure on them
-
GYF1v2... fine in the wet. No.. not as good in the dry, but no worse than any other summer tyre.

I'm looking at these for mine.... Have you had Goodyear and changed to the vreds?
-
I've got a full set of Michelin PS3's for sale, all 6-7mm, £300. Only selling as I've gone for 19"s otherwise I'd def keep them, they are really good tyres. :happy2:
-
I've only ever run PS3's and love them. The two tyres people tend to go for are PS3's or GY F1. If you want some cheaper tyres the one of choice seems to be Vreds
-
I had eagle f1s on my old golf and they were great. I now have the sessantas on my gti and they are great in the dry and good in the wet, but in the cold there seems to be bugger all grip! Probably down to the summer tyre compound, not bad for the money. Would go for the super sports when they're available as they're supposed to be good! :happy2:
-
Michelin pilot sport 3s are sold in cost co for 119 pound a tyre at 225/40/18 which is the right size and a good price to be fair at new. Maybe I misread that the sizes are rare whiles skimming but yeah if that helps :signLOL:

This ^^ .................. Brilliant tyres the Sessantas :happy2:
:happy2: :happy2: :happy2:
-
sessantas are good for the money, but they go off quick well well before there on there last legs
go michelin supersport if you want the best road tyre
-
Michelin PS3's I find are best for me
-
I really can't fault the Pirelli P Zeros I have had on mine over the last 5 years. They wear pretty quickly but offer great dry and wet performance
-
Michelin PS2 for me. They are still available, and are still being manufactured by Michelin - dispite what the likes of ATS and ThikFit tell you. The PS2 is better than the PS3 - and this was discussed at length in the review threads.
Goodyear F1 Assy, Dunflop ShyteMaxx and Vredstein all have weaker sidewall construction compared to Michelin - hence why they all go 'off' far sooner than the stiffer sidewalled Michelins.
-
Soft sidewalls is my old gripe with the goodyears. Brilliant grip though.
-
I have Pilot Super Sports on order and having spoken to Michelin I've been advised that I should expect to see them between the middle and end of April. When they arrive I'll have a full set of 7 month old Goodyear F1 A2's for sale. They have 7mm+ of tread on them. #justsayin' :happy2:
-
fitted f1 assy 2 today to my fronts rears still got 7 mm on so left bridgestones on the rear , car feels nice but not had chance to push them yet , good grip so far and i have 338 ft lb of torque to play with
