I have been looking around at a few Induction Kits for my car mainly to improve the the air intake but also to have a nicer sound when accelarating.
I know it will not improve bhp so wondere what my options are as have seen basic ones for £40 up to a few hundred

Evoms , ITG or Forge twintake.
-
I have a k&n typhoon that i'm very happy with.

There are DIY threads somewhere.
I presume you mean in the how to guides in here so I will have a scan.
Have seen articles where it mentions making one yourself. Might have a look and see if my limited skills could stretch to it

I made my own it's in my build thread  very very simple to make up mate

Really depends on your budget? Bank on £250-£420 ish for a tried and trusted one.
EVOMS makes very good CAI and it costs around £300, ITG/VWR and REVO CAI's are around £400 each. Don't bother with the Forge Twintake or the cheap REVO or the AMD one. Some of those homemade ones look good too just make sure you buy the section that attaches to the turbo (from Forge) as the MAF sensor ideally needs to be in a certain place IIRC.
I've had the ITG Maxogen, the EVOMS and now have the latest REVO one. As mentioned, they're all good. EVOMS for cha cha cha, ITG for a pronounced impression of Darth Vader's whooosssssh diiisssssssshh and the REVO for something in the middle of the 2.

Can i ask why you think that Martin?

^^^^ with CAI's its all about the flow (so I'm led to believe) and the Forge one don't do that as well as the others, ie 2 closed canisters, 1 of which faces to the side of the car and the other filling up with all sorts of detritus from the front. Form over function IMO.
No doubt someone with a graph will come along to prove me wrong.

What specific parts would I need for a DIY intake. I am thinking of buying the parts separate but want to make sure I am getting all the bits. I have seen some cheap induction kits going on which if not for my specific car then I presume I could use some bits which are universal and likely have to find alternative housing etc to fit in my car.
I am thinking all I need is
CONE AIR FILTER
FLEXIBLE or RIGID COLD AIR HOSING
SOME JUBILEE CLIPS
SOME MOUNTING BRACKETS
SOME SILICONE HOSE ADAPTORS
One kit I have seen is this PART NUMBER- ACCDA85-150 which looking on the site it says Universal but presume I would need to buy the relevant hosing and brackets?
-
But also it depends on what IC is fitted and other parts. The intake is but one restriction on air flow. Others are inlet pipes, boost pipes, IC design and also the design of the head and valves. Plus you need to make sure the intake has a properly scaled maf housing to ensure it has the correct trim readings. Even being of slightly out can have a massive effect on how the engine operates. I found that just by changing all the engine mounts changed the sound of the engine with the oe airbox.
I am not a big believer in intakes on road cars as you do sacrifice low end for top end power. I always look at what part of the power band you drive in everyday. 99% will be below 4000rpms so you don't really benefit from an intake. Plus when I went from an intake to the oe cover. If you want more noise Id change the exhaust. You wont notice the 10ish bhp you lose top end without an intakes but you will notice the loss in low end torque.

Sorry to be :stupid: but I am not sure if that reply was to me or another post as did not understand most of it :ashamed:
If it was to me and sorry if it answers above but what I am trying to work out is of the parts like the cone, housing, air intake hose etc what is actually universal and what is specific to the car you need to put it on. I mean for instance parts like the hose adapters and clips I presume are totally universal as opposed to the cones fileter which may need to be an exact size for your specific car. I might be talking crap though :happy2:

Could be, you got any pics of it and even though it has probably been explained an still a bit confused what parts are what. If got your kit what extra bits would I need still?
Also how much you looking for the lot?

I'll raise you one there,
My own GTI ran like a sack of s### with a twintake on. Boost was all over the place. Never once consistent.
A few months later on a Dyno day I might add. We compared my own car (stock intake) on the dyno with an Audi A3 running forge twin take as well.
Both same year production, same exhausts on, both AXX engine, both DSG, Both on APR software. Mine made almost 9 kw's at the wheels more than the A3 with forge twin take.
Additionally, some logs I did early last year also indicated on my car to run way too lean and pushing the injectors out to the max.
This is the biggest issue we face running intakes on our MK5 golfs. Hence there are really on a handful that really improve and work.
As others have mentioned, Evoms, Neuspeed, VWR, ITG (the big daddy version), Volant (so far it seems to be working well)
I'm not able to provide any information about the new REVO intake. we don't have them, additionally they are way too expensive by the time we import them.
To give you an idea, at your current RRP on the Revo, by the time shipping, customs, duty and tax was to combined. We won't see much change from approx £590
btw keep up your diy videos etc, will help many a members on here

This one I have found going really cheap.
Now it says universal but is this true as in would it fit to my Golf 1.4 TSI 170 or would some things need changing/adjusting
-
Right took the leap, well cheap leap as decided rather than get a load of expensive stuff I would buy a few cheap bits so I can use these bits to have a go at fitting myself and seeing what it sounds like.
In the end I went and bough a cheap CARBON FILTER INDUCTION KIT for £35 which came with the air ducting, silicone adapters and some jubilee clips. I then bought an 76mm ASH 90 degree silicone hose in black for £20.
Looking at the parts I have and what I needed I have got everything.
Looking at the guide I basically just:
- Fit initial silicone adapter to the intake pipe and place 2 Jubilee clips at either end
- Then fit the 90 degree bend into the silicone adapter and fit another silicone adapter on the other end with 2 Jubilee clips on the new silicone adapter attached
- Then slot the air ducting into the carbon filter with Jubilee clip and feed down behind the passenger front headlight
- Fit other end of the carbon filter into the silicone adapter with the 2 Jubilee clips
Move around until in the right position and then tighten all Jubilee clips.
Kit is all coming at the weekend so if I have missed anything obvious please let em know as will have time to purchase it :happy2:

Make sure you get the 2.75"/3" silicone reducer to 2.0-2.5 from intake to turbo.

Slightly confused here, my understanding is i am going to leave all the existing kit there which goes from the turbo and then i am only replacing from the intake onewards which is just above the engine in the centre.

I Believe that GLIDN is talking about the 2.0 tfsi out the gti. Just to clarify irish_ram is trying to make a kit for a gt 170 1.4 tsi.

Yes and I am only starting from the intake pipe which is roughly starts halfway across the top of the engine so and adapter and 90 hose to get round that and then an adapter at other end of 90 degree hose and straight into the carbon filter which will have the air duct pipe on the other end.

ohk, no idea where I got him wanting to get a 2.0TFSI intake. Sorry my confusion.
It means some information I provided will not be relevant to you I'm afraid. Only the 2.0TFSI owners.
In your case however, proceed. sounds like you have it all sorted.

No worries
Carbon air filter came yesterdat with some jubilee clips and air ducting hose so just waiting for my 90 degree pipe to turn up today hopefully.
However with the air filter i received an extra large jubilee clip fitted around the carbon air filter and also a flat long clip but in the instructions I have it does not mention these parts so not sure what they are for
-
This sounds like a universal bracket. You can use this to secure the filter and stop it rattling around.

That was my first guess I could use it for the bracket. I presume I just need to attach the Clip bolt a fitting near where the filter is
-
Right I am back again with probably some more stupid questions
Because of busy weekends I have been unable to fit my custom induction kit however I have a long weekend this weekend and think I will get some time to do it however I think I have missed some parts so hoping someone can help me.
The parts I have are:
1 x Carbon Fibre Airbox
3 x small Jubilee Clips - Think I need one more but can grab one easily this weekend
1 x large Jubilee Clips - I presume to clam down the Airbox
3 x varying size hose joiners - think one is a 76 to 67 reducing hose joiner - SO might need another one which apparently is just a 76mm hose joiner
1 x 90 Silicone hose joiner - think this is not needed for my setup
So apart from the couple of things above following the guide below I think I am also missing a 90 aluminium bend
