Fitted a rcd510 recently and suffering from battery drain, I fitted the new can gateway but had my dash lit up with abs light and traction light, Tried to code using my mates vag com but didn't know where to start lol.
Location is Sheffield and of course will give some beer money.

Well you need to put in your old gateway.. and go into 19 CAN Gateway - Installation list.. and note down which options are selected
Then refit your new can and go into 19 CAN Gateway - Installation list and tick the correct items
-
So is there a guide on here? Seems easy enough if all I have to do is note down old coding..???

What I posted is a guide. Do that and you'll be fine

It is pretty easy once you familiarise yourself with VCDS. This the guide I used when I did my first one a couple of years ago. http://www.my-gti.com/2296/can-bus-gateway-removing-installing-and-upgrading-volkswagen-golf (http://www.my-gti.com/2296/can-bus-gateway-removing-installing-and-upgrading-volkswagen-golf)

You could still be on a sticky wicket with a L gateway if its software version isn't the latest.
-
sorry to jump on this old thread, but I have a L can bus gateway
Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 1K0-907-530-V3.clb
Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 L HW: 1K0 907 951
Component: J533 Gateway H07 0052
Revision: H07 01 Serial number: 070807F2000490
Coding: E9807F0E0002020003
Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200
VCID: 306FF64BA3D6889E243-8065
How do I know if the software is the latest so I don't get battery drain when I change the head unit.

Looking at an old scan of my Tig, I had the exact same L version with the same software (0052). It came from the factory with this and has been in a mk5 GTI for nearly six months with no drain.
As far as I know, it is K variants that have issues as they came from different suppliers.

brilliant, thank you.
