Got rinsed by an '04 Civic Type R this morning. Not happy. Are they really quicker than the GTi's?
-
Not standard, no. When I had my mk5 GTI, my friend had an FN2 (2009) type-R, and we were pretty much side-by-side until he missed 5th
-
Push the pedal on the right down just a little bit harder next time
-
What stage of mods you running, time to up the game :signLOL: stage 2
-
in a stock gti the type r would be up your arse if he can drive and know to keep it high up in the vtec zone :driver: if had an induction kit and exhaust on it then would be about 215bhp maybe more.If down in the revs they are slow infact very slow no torque :roll eye: at all i should know i have had a few of em

I am completely stock, and as was he. I can't recall if I was foot to the floor, but the ASP was off. He was just behind me until about 65, then he took off...
-
I know of a few NA ones that would beat stage 2 plus ED30's
-
yeah me too nice hondata on and cams and a few other trick bits they do shift

VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO...had to do it.
How do you know the car was stock? I would expect them to be similar but a remap would address the issue.
Perhaps the car is down on power, split DV doesn't always throw a code.

I don't, and I don't even remember writing that I thought he was. hah, being ill sucks. Anyway, he looked and sounded stock. I have a Rev G DV that I replaced maybe 6 months ago...
-
My G split so I've gone back to a D revision.
Get a remap :happy2:.
-
Isn't that gen Civic considerably lighter than the Golf? That'll come into play once you both have proper traction.
-
Remap - Remap
-
They are fairly nippy in n/a form if a few bits done to them. Forced induction them and they're a whole different ball game (obviously I know lol). But I wouldn't have said it would "rinse" a gti, pull a few car lengths probs of exhaust, cams ect. As said above, might give you motivation for a cheeky remap :happy2:
-
Have a look on the R forum to see if anybody is posting they've just wiped a GTI?
-
Swap the Golf for a Focus ST. That was proper Type R bait, never had one go past me on road or track.
-
I completely swept the floor with a dc5 integra type r last Saturday. he gave it all the big boll**** up my a*** over speedbumps then again up my a*** round the roundabout lights then bye bye, 21psi of boost in the dry on the straight :P
I agree, get a remap mate :happy2:
-
My 1.9 TDI with just a remap nearly kept up with a Civic type R.. GTI would be quicker on the move, flat out be fairly equal... checked your DV...?

365lbft that's nearly 3 times as much as the terrible 142lbft in the CTR :signLOL:

Yes true...but it's the rpm at which the torque is produced that's important.
-
No no no, with JUST a remap (around 150bhp and 265lb ft).
The fully tuned beast had no issues with an old Boxster S :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:

OP, sounds like its time for a map......... before your nan hands you a beating in her Micra!
-
My old Scirocco CR170 TDI was neck and neck with an FN2 Type-R up a hill on the bypass near me.
They aren't particularly quick in standard form unless in a drag race and require a lot of work to get the best out of them, particularly the EP3 models.
In gear speeds, a stock K03 GTI should have it :happy2:
