Title: BP instead of Shell?
Post by: Simmo on March 13, 2014, 08:33:04 am
So we're moving into our nice new house next week but we've moved to an area where there isnt a Shell garage for miles.

But there is a BP station round the corner.

On a remapped GTI has anyone seen any issues with using BP Ultimate? Any loss in power/mpg compared to using vpower?

Cheers

I think BP is only 97Ron where as shell v power is 99Ron. If there's a Tesco nearby their momentum is 99Ron (the tesco's with an esso are only 97ron)

Also BP Ultimate is a COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!

Its about 147-9.9 around my way with Vpower Nitro being 136-8.9

I avoid BP like a plague unless I have no other choice and then only put a small amount in!!

Iirc when 5th gear did a fuel test on a golf gti at r tech BP came out terrible...don't use the ultimate... Plan your fortnightly fill up around a shell or a Tesco that's what I do anyway

Niki said that the test on 5th gear doesn't tell the whole story. main one being how they react when the temps rise.

he would always say stick to vpower but what is 2nd choice? hopefully he'll see this thread.

Tesco momentum is 99 RON V power is 98.  Surely tesco should be first choice no?

If my car run out of petrol I would rather push it to the next town rather than go to the bp station in my town, absolute rip off merchants

I only have BP in my area except for a shell 24 miles away  :sad1:

Tesco's in my area don't do 99..... So I always fill up at BP...

BP Ultimate = 97RON
Shell V Power = 99RON
Tesco Momentum = 99RON

I would assume the order would be.

Shell
Tesco
BP

Optimax was 98 Ron (98.6 iirc), when it became Vpower it became 99 I believe.

BP is closest so its Ultimate for me, had to use an Asda in an emergency last year :ashamed:  but didnt notice any notable difference (except price) tbh.

I think I might take the trek to Shell, even if its 15 miles, it'll probably cost less!  :happy2:
