Title: IPAD Mini fitting instead of stereo
Post by: Cameroon on March 13, 2014, 01:58:43 pm
A lad i know as saying he had seen something where some one had fitted a Ipad mini in a VW instead of the stereo,

I looked on the internet and youtube but its mostly americans who have done it,

Has anyone ever tried this or thought about trying it,

Think it would be awesome but it may be a ball ache,

I have a MK5 golf 1.9 tdi SE 56 plate, thanks.

Company called Soundwaves in the US of A do these. The current surround gets modded and sone wiring installed and the ipad held in place via magnets. Pop em an emai, you never know....

There was a blue r32 that is on ccw classics that had it done.

Sure the surround was for sale recently.

If not contact studio in car, they are awesome at this kinda stuff  :happy2:

That's pretty badass! I'd love to do it myself but I don't think there would be any point for me as I don't have any audio upgrades! Suppose you could use the satnav though!

Car audio security have done this on their e46 m3. Looks ace! Maybe not worth it with apple releasing their incar platform

CarPlay sounds like it's for new OEM audio...

http://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/

Still plenty of reasons to retrofit to older cars!

Jairm: what did you do with the audio output from the tablet? Did you have a DAC, or just a potentiometer?

I mounted a app supported headunit in the glove box, this way I was still able to use the steering wheel controls, Bluetooth stream, and still listen to the radio
