When you say loss in power, is it a complete loss or just reduced?

I got a warning light and ran VAGCOM which said it was due to low fuel pressure. Turned out to be the pressure sensor.

Any way you could get your hands on VCDS?

You should get a list of fault code/s on it.
These can be used to indicate whats wrong, by cross referencing with http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes)

For early cars you could need a fuel pressure sensor recall.
Most common are Diverter Valve failure and Coilpack failure , in your case the former is most likely.
But you also want to be looking out for cam follower wear if you have an early GTI

some good info http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24952 (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24952)

let us know how you get on  :happy2:
