Hi guys!
So i have just bought an edition 30 with crappy RCD300! I have an RCD510 replacement but i have no idea if i need a new canbus gateway, and if i do i have no idea where to get it coded so that i can prevent the battery drain issue!
Is there anyone in the west midlands has a VCDS that can help me out sorting the new stereo pleaseeeee?!
Thanks

What year is your car? Roughly 57 plate onwards should have the new generation gateway, but it is not a given.
-
mine is an 07 plate and is build no.53 if thats any help?
-
Mine is a smidgen older and came with a K version from the old supplier = battery drain, though I swapped it for a Q version.
All you can do is physically remove it and see the label, or as you first intended...by VCDS scan.
If you do need one, Eddie-NL will sort you out way cheaper than the dealer will.

Check the VIN, if the 10th digit is an 8 that indicates its a 2008MY and should have the newer gateway immune from battery drain.
-
is it clearly labelled what letter gateway it is as i dont really know what im looking for lol!
i believe it has to be 'L' or newer is this right? and is it a straight swap or do i have to change it then have it coded to my car?
thanks

Yep L or newer, some K versions are alright, but it depends what software version they have loaded, so you are better forgetting them.
It has a part number on the front, yea, the letter on the end is what you need. A new or used one will need recoded for the options on your car, Eddie can do this if you tell him.
But do a free visual check first.

one last question! :signLOL:
Where is the gateway located?
