Only glitch if found is if you adjust the volume, its turns of the playback, and you have to stop to do the two button trick.

Even so, cheap trick and its Free!!!

Its the button next to the cd eject button on the head unit.  For mine i hold the button for half a sec and then press tone button and i get a bong and its activated

As soon as I press the 'i' button I get some stupid woman talking to me and pressing the Tone button just then takes me to the settings page?

I must be doing something wrong? (says a lot that I can't even press two buttons correctly!!!)

^^^^^^Remember to drive off as normal so the black screen appears, then come to a stop, then hit (i) quickly followed by tone and that should do it . :happy2:

Works a treat...even on my sat nav without the 2660 firmware upgrade.

I have to press the traffic "i" button for a second and then the tone button and the unit gives a dull audible beep.

This is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

I'll have to try it again. I have the old firmware 1100 and tried it several times but it didn't work.

Would have been cool to have Knight Rider playing whilst driving!

I had to keep the "i" button pressed for a second, and then whilst holding that down press the tone button.

Upgraded the firmware on my sat nav.  I was really nervous...but it all went ahead smoothly without a glitch.

Got some funky extra features... the shortcut key for the DVD playback hack appears to be a bit more temperamental now though. Got to work out the timing of pressing the buttons...

Has anyone got it to work with v2660 every time?
Title: Re: RNS 510 DVD Playback Tip

Playback working everytime - just had to wait for the announcement after pressing the "i" button before going to the "Tone" button.  All good...

Question:  There's been mention of a possible slow-drain in voltage in some cars... how do I check for that? Thanks in advance.

P.S.  If I wanted to revert back to the original firmware - where can I get that from?

HELP: DVD playback while driving is no longer working after updating to firmware 2720.  Any one figured out how to get it working on this firmware release?

Thanks in advance.

mojo, I thought you had it working? I tried all sorts at first and I couldn't get it to work. I was doing it wrong, and I tried everything except the right way. This works everytime for me,

1)Play a DVD and get it to the correct volume.  (if you alter the volume it will bring up the settings page and you will have to stop the car again and repeat)

2)Start the car moving and then when the screen goes black.

3)Pull up at the side of the road. (The DVD will start to play again)

4)Press the "i" button (just for a milli-second) and Mrs Sat-Nav will start to say something.

5)Immediately press the "TONE" button. (this will make a beep)

6)Set off again with the DVD playing  :happy2:

.....p.s...If you do access another display page other than the DVD, it will reset. So then you have to go back to number 3).

Also, I think it is very handy to have this feature as is. I'm not sure if its legal to have a DVD playing whilst driving, but should someone notice, (rozzers) you can quickly adjust the volume and it will reset. Then if you need to prove that it won't play when moving... just set off and it will show the black screen.

Ill see if he will let me tell people the company name...keep you all posted.

Monte...I had it working without any issues until I upgraded to firmware 2720.

I press the "i" button followed by the "Tone" button and get the tone to indicate the hack...but when I drive off the DVD display blanks out.... very frustrating!!!

I don't think it was working with 2680 so possible VW knew about this hack and stopped it due to safety issues

Had it working on the 2660 firmware version but as I have an 'A' version unit I had to upgrade to an edited version of 2720 as my ipod track name would not change on the screen when the audio track went to the next song, frustrating!! :sad1:

Ipod issue fixed but no video in motion.........I did find it distracting when testing it on a large deserted, privately owned car park briefly. And it is illegal to have an operating tv/moving image in view of the driver when moving!!

Yep every time. Also if you press any other buttons or alter the volume then it will stop, which means you have to pull up again and press the 2 buttons again.

Mojo,

Yes mate I have the same problem, although I don't really miss it to be honest as I didn't have it for long. And in any case having to stop and do it again if you alter volume etc would become annoying. I agree with posts that suggest that Vw sussed it and altered it for safety. You could always shell out for a kufatec override lead or downgrade the firmware?

Still going from an MCD monochrome sat nav in an 06 GTI polo to a car that talks to me and has a flashy colour touch screen sat nav that actually plays my ipod properly, who am I to complain?!!! :signLOL:

Darren did you get the go ahead from the company to let us know who they were? I'm thinking of splashing out for a TV in motion cable from ebay (about £80) but if it can be done for £25 please let us know.

Confirmation that they do it, basically they remap the unit so it doesn't pick up the speed sensor.

But..........they quoted me £50.00, would have to take the unit out and send it to them which would cost £10.00. Or could drive down there (they are based in Leicester), about an hour away from me.

I'm going to put a best offer in on a harness from ebay for £70.00, if I don't get it I will then drive down to these guys.

Well I have just bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180484538448

Apparently this also fixes the battery drain issue when upgrading the firmwares, not sure if I should try or not! It is the same as the one in the link below:
