After years of boring family cars :sad1: I am getting something with a little more class. My kids are now teenagers and I don't have to commute often, so, 7 years after test driving a Mk5 I am family in the market for a GTI
Need a little help with choosing...I have a light weight caravan that I have to tow once or twice a year - Is the DSG 'box any good for towing?
Cheers

Can't speak for its towing ability but having always driven manuals, I'd never go back after driving the dsg :notworthy:

Welcome along
personally I would go for manual, less to go wrong :happy2:

Welcome along. :drinking:
DSG would be fine for towing. Happy hunting!

I am open to either so with that info will try to find the best car for the right price. Would prefer the manual though.
Thanks for the replies :happy2:

Welcome along!
I think the best advice would be to try both gearboxes and pic your favourite. :happy2:

I prefer Manual, but I suggest you try both as everybody has there own preferences with Manual or DSG.

I find my DSG great - and thats coming from someone who was committed to manuals.

I've always had manual cars, from small to large and ive always said id never get an auto. I test drive both types and bought a dsg about a month ago and I'm love it. I can't understand why you'd want manual for towing, dsg offers a much more relaxing drive when you need to plow through the miles and when you get there and unhook, you can take control with the paddles and have so fun. IMO go to a main dealer and take each for a long drive and see which you prefer, for the type of car the golf is, the dsg makes real sense.

I would go manual...

Dsg with a remap. Plenty of pulling power then!
