Hi,

I have posted a quick question on here previously but I now have my first ever GTi which I collected yesterday. A 2008 57' plate Steel grey, DSG, Ed30. Love it already.

Great forum and I've managed to pick up loads of hints and tips already.

Quick question I do have about the stereo as the books not with the car! It's appears to be a standard head unit with MP3 (not sat nav etc) on it but I'm unsure as to whether it's an RCD 300 or 500 as any images I google bring up the same things. Can anyone advise if there is a difference and what it's likely to be? Reason I ask is I'd like to get hold of the bit I need to connect an iPod which it doesn't currently have.

NDT, I'm from just south of Edinburgh, with a VCDS (Vag-Com) cable. Want me to scan your car sometime? From that you'll be able to see the part number for everything installed on your car (including radio) and take it from there.

Are you looking to upgrade your head unit, or simply add an iPod lead?

The iPod lead/dock simulates a CD changer so you can have 6 playlists (not sure how it chooses them). With newer head units the MDI dock connects your iPhone/iPod and charges it (like the iPod lead/dock) but gives you full control from the head unit.
