Indy want £257 to replace lambda sensor on Mk4 1.6 petrol.
Is that about right?

What!!! Lambda about 30-40£ check ebay...10 min diy...

For a mk5 gti the pre cat sensor costs around £140 so unless he charges an exorbitant labour rate it sounds too expensive to me.

that's the price he is quoting + £65hr labour + vat
He was shocked, said they are usually £80ish

Check ebay... im sure there isnt need to spend 250£ on lambda sensor on mk4 1.6...

Back when i had my mk4 1.6 I had to change one of the sensors and I'm sure it cost me £115 from my local parts shop!
