My mate has a spare rcd310 which he removed to upgrade to rns510 on his last car which he has now sold and some companies on eBay claim to provide you a code for £6. Anyone tried this?
I want to put it in my car as my rcd510 is just a flashy radio at the moment!

Ask your local dealer for the code. They can provide it (usually free if you're on good terms with them) and should be able to do it for your mate based on the vin of his car.
-
Unfortunately that's not possible as he's sold the car already. He forgot to keep the card the idiot.
What I was really asking whether through these ads on eBay can they provide the code just with the serial number?
Also if anyone has tried it already
Cheers

They should be able to, worth a try as you can just get a refund if it doesn't work. Vw stopped supplying the code cards a few years ago so most cars don't have them
-
I went to vw a few months ago to ask the same question. They told me that if I got it fitted they would provide the code for me. Worth doing that before spending £6

Did they want to do the fitting themselves?
-
Nope. Just said to come in with it working and they would do it

Just to update. Bought the code from ebay for £6
Took approx 3hrs and got the code. Worked first time.
All he asked was for the serial number which is on a white sticker but on mine at least was etched into the side also.
Defo worth it seller name is buy54321gone

So some thieving git can smash your window, rip your expensive OEM headunit out, and have it in theirs for the grand sum of £6 !!!!!
