Has anyone got a good guide with pics/video on how to change the Oil Filter on an MK5 TSI which I am presuming is the same as on a GTI mostly.
Also when you have to change your Oil Filter after 1000 miles on a new engine do you need to change the Oil aswell?

Anyone got any help on this as looking to do this at the weekend

Thanks for this, really good guide.
One question though as I am probably getting confused. The dealer advised when my new engine was fitted that the Oil xxxx will need changing after 1000 miles. Am i right in thinking only the actual filter needs changing and not the actual oil. Plus they may not have but would they have put new Oil in the new engine anyway so would not need flushing out

I would just do both oil and filter and not worry about an engine flush :happy2:

Ah right, was slightly confused there but realise what you mean I think :ashamed:
I presume I would just follow the guide above but do not add the flushing agent

It may 'fit' - but it definately isn't OEM quality. Just go to your local TPS and get a genuine item at a virtually identical price!

That ECP one looks like the wrong filter.
And I really don't get it why folks use GSF or ECP at all - especially on modern cars like the Mk5 Golf! They might be fine on older stuff - say Mk3 Golf and earlier, and for generic stuff such as batteries - but I've personally had some horrendous quality shyte from both of them, for stuff such as brake pads and discs, oil and air filters, and wiper blades - and they both claimed the parts were 'OEM spec'. 9 times out of 10, I end up sending the crap back, and get the correct stuff from the main dealer. One example, their Reno Megane brakes are dreadful, and only a few quid cheaper than Reno main dealer prices (I had one customer who refused to pay the £20ish more for genuine items - it then cost them a further £80 in my labour charge trying to fix it).
I don't understand why you think that TPS won't have service items (filters, plugs, wipers, brakes) in stock - especially for a mainstream vehicle such as a Golf?!?! The whole main dealer network spares departments (and therefore TPS) must keep all service parts in stock, on their shelves - for all vehicles upto five years old, and for upto ten year old vehicles - will be an overnight delivery. This is a EU directive!

Dropped down to TPS and got an OEM filter for £6 and fitted in 10 minutes so all good. As this was the only thing required after 1000 miles I did not do the Oil change as did not have time as was fitting my custom air intake too.
May change the Oil next weekend if have time but do not think it needs doing to be honest
