Title: ***Forum Upgrade Testing***
Post by: rich83 on March 29, 2014, 02:51:58 pm
OK.... so we have a testing forum up and running. Its taken me bloooooooody ages to sort it out. Its nearly there... but it needs a few things fixing and tweaking before we make the switch over.

Have a look and let us know what you think. Bare in mind it will run slowly as its on a crappy server. The next reincarnation of the test forum will reside on our (this) server, so performance will be much better.

If theres anything that immediately sticks out as wrong/horrible/crap/worse/better/etc please tell us. We want this to be a positive move.  :happy2:

NB. tapatalk might not work as ive not installed the plugin.

You can login with your current username. Please note that its a testing forum so anything posted on there will be removed as of the 3rd April (when my hosting runs out)

personally prefer the started by in a separate column, spaces out the threads better. also a white background...like we have now

also in regards to the for sale section, would it be possible to once sold have the option the "archive" the thread. This would move it to another section "archived"

Im not sure that going to be something that we can change, its probably very much embedded in tons of code.

The white background might be do-able... will put it on the list of things to do/try.

also in regards to the for sale section, would it be possible to once sold have the option the "archive" the thread. This would move it to another section "archived"

I dont think so no. I will look into it.

I need to look into whether the statistics are carried over when the database is converted. I have added it to the list. Thanks  :happy2:

We might end up losing this feature.

I like the forum just the way it is now, a few tweaks and it would be perfect... It's easy read, easy on the eyes, things can be found handy enough too. It has worked well for years

Would also like to see the started by in a separate column  :notworthy: makes finding threads easier!

keep up the good work!

Hopefully thats what we will achieve. But upgrading does mean that it will change. We cant keep running on software that is over 7 years out of date. We must move it on to keep up with security and also for forum performance.

I dont think the thread starter topic is possible. I will look into it.

OK... looks like the "started by" column is available via adding a load of code. Its on the list to try when we do the 2nd phase of the testing.  :happy2:

I do like the grey background - reduces the strain on the eyes.

just been looking into this, and its not possible without  a lot of extra code editing which is beyond me. So it will be light grey, which IMO is easier to read, as opposed to black/white contrast.

I have edited it to give a clear line break between posts now.  :happy2:

I already miss the old "new" buttons. The orange clashes IMO.

I don't mind not having a "started by" column but having independent views/replies made it easier to find certain threads by sorting. Not essential.

Also miss the colour themes eg usernames in red.

The orange "new" icon on the new forum will be changed. I agree.... its a bad clash

There is an independent 'views' and 'replies' sorting... but its merged into one column. Have another look and let me know.

Also miss the colour themes eg usernames in red.

Im sure you can cope with that. (unless I can find how to change them.... theres so many reference files you wouldnt believe)

They look awesome. Marked improvement.

The replies/views can be arranged only in forum views rather than a view of all unread posts which is how I normally use this forum.

No worries about the layouts and themes. Lets just get things working first.

Could someone like a couple of my posts? In the profile section the messages/topics (given) it shows up who I've thanked but at the moment the topics/messages (Become) are the same as they are on here but it says 0 members like this (even tho they are my thanked posts) so just want to check to see if its because its a lthank you from the back up or if it affects new likes

Looking good so far Rich..

If you click on an inserted image which has been downsized, it appears to zoom up to its original size.  Seems to happen both to ones which have links to a new window (Flickr for example) as well as others.  Hope that makes sense!

Ah right, hopefully you crack it soon.

I did notice something else the other day, if you click on a post that someone has thanked to see who has thanked it, it says "follow members..." Instead of "fellow members..."

For this post, 1 member gave a thank you!
