Any ideas guys installed my p version rns 510 today and it doesn't locate my location and says satellites 0/0?
Just says im at the last stored location of where it was last.
Anything to do with the gps reciever?
Cheers

id try a factory reset
-
Where did you mount the GPS puck?
-
I mounted it just just above where the unit sits in.
How would I factory reset it?
Cheers guys!
-
I would move the puck to behind the clocks where there's less interference, although mine sits on the arm that moves up/down when the front vent dials are rotated.
Factory reset is like Ctrl-Alt-Del on PC, think it's < > and i or *

This sounds very familiar. Where did you get the RNS unit from? I bought one recently which had the same issue (0/0 satellites found) and it turned out it was buggered.
Resetting the unit made no difference to me, and the unit thought it was in the middle of a field near Newport in Wales. I guess that's where it was nicked from....
Anyway, to reset the unit ....

I got it off a company selling them on eBay.
Comes with 6 months warranty too.
Cheers for the reset link :happy2:

I've a spare GPS puck and RNS 510 here if you're near and wanna stop round to do a bit of testing.
-
Master reset hasn't fixed the problem..any other ideas chaps
-
I think you'll find that's buggered mate. Best get hold of the seller and take it up with him.

GPS antenna needs to be as high as possible in the dash, I found the signal directly on top of the unit was poor. Placing it just beneath the air output above the vents works or above the instrument cluster.

Miles away mate. North Yorks.... :drinking:

so i moved the gps antenna and its found the satelittes now and works.
Can i ask if genuine vw gps receivers are better at getting signal and the one i have which i got free with the satnav looks like a flimsey bit of kit?
-
Result there. Must've been critical to where you had it positioned I guess.
Not had any comparison dealings with different antennas, as mine's factory fitted in the car. I have an after market one with the RNS I picked up the other day, but I've not compared them.

We've got another car with a factory fitted RNS 315 that is currently having issues picking up a signal, whereas my DIY fit RNS 310 has been working fine. So no - the VW antennas aren't necessarily better :happy2:
