Hey everyone, just wondering if an mpg of 28 on a 08 Gti dsg for a 44 min journey with mostly motorway miles is normal?
-
Depends how fast you were driving, how many passengers, what fuel etc. .
High 30's -40mpg if your gentle.
-
46 into work!!
-
Bit more info would help, is it standard?
-
Standard car afaik, it was me the wife and our 2yr old, not stupid driving, fairly sensible tbh. Using vmax, never seen an average over 30 so far and with my son in the car I always use dsg in d. I'm starting to think it could be low due to an issue, any suggestions as I've checked the tire pressure already.

Sounds fairly normal to me, I've got a DSG and I've never seen over 35mpg
Did a run to Wales last year at 70mph all the way on the M6 (2 and a half hours) and averaged 30mpg (Stage 2 running on VPower)

I get an average of 36mpg at 70 with minimal overtakes. Manual, 40k, stage1 tune. Have got 41mpg over 190miles at 55-60mph.
It's not all about speed though... Having a twitchy right foot can drop it considerably despite you not actually going any faster.
Is the car regularly serviced, does it have all the power you'd expect, idle smoothly, tyre pressures good, does it roll freely on a slight incline (no binding brakes)?

How about on a long run, like a few hours??

I generally average 35 on motorway journeys going at 70/ 80 mph. Highest I've ever had out of it is 38 but was with AC off and not exceeding 70mph. Round town it generally gets mid 20s, averaging about 30 overall. Good enough for what it is I think.
From what I've read in real life the manual seems to be capable of higher on longer runs, even though the paper figures are slightly worse than the DSG?

Easily get 38+ on a motorway journey stick it on cruise at 70mph happy days.

Think I replied to you on another thread, find it interesting yours always does better than mine given they are both 06 5dr DSGs. I haven't got cruise (yet) so maybe that's it.

Odd :)
Got a few times when I've had over 42! Highest so far was 41.8 which was a 70mph cruise (including some horrible traffic) to a meet over 65 miles. Included a hoof down a slip road.

One is a gti, one is a gt tdi ????

Just wondering what else the difference could be, mines probably higher mileage but that shouldn't affect it. Doesn't bother me too much as 35 is tollerable but you'd think both cars should achieve the same :happy2:
Oh and I generally run on supermarket fuel as it didn't seem to like premium stuff round town, but will try swapping again soon
-
Mines an 06 5 door DSG and I've never seem anything like 40mpg, struggle to get much above 70mph with cruise on after a couple of hours on the motorway. I live about 3 miles from the M6 too so I havn't got a long town journey to get there either

Mines just ticked over to 100k!
Mileage shouldn't effect anything really :)
I do run premium fuel though so perhaps that's the difference haha. :happy2:

Mines stage 2+. So all the support stuff/map.
I have once got 51. But never replicated it. Mid-40s is what I generally get when taking my time. No rush, just nice and gentle everything, no hard acceleration. Sit at 70.

Jay I could match your figures in my K03 GTI, I really think all these cars are capable of 40+mpg, it's just some of us have the ability to drive like a nun and others don't :signLOL:
I got 40mpg from my Civic Type-R's too, so I doubt it's just me being lucky enough to get cars that are better on fuel than others, it must be driving style

Would cruise control help then? I might pull the plugs, change the air filter etc just to be sure but 28 does seem a bit low compared to most.

Some people say cruise control increases mpg. I only use mine on an empty motorway with little overtaking
-
Hmm, I'll give it a try then. I know it's not the brakes binding at the fronts were just replaced and there is no excess heat from any wheel when I've checked after a drive. Time to get a new DV and air filter I guess, the tuning begins again...
-
Is £38 a decent price for a k&n panel air filter? Seems ok to me but then I'm used to Audi's prices, and with audi it's nee butter and nee kisses
-
Have you scanned it?
-
Scanned what mate?
-
The car using VCDS?
-
35.9 on a 2hr journey yesterday, Did hit horrible traffic on the m25 though... 5dr DSG with cruise set most of the way
-
Not yet, gonna pop over to vw and see if it needs a recall and see if they will take a look
-
The highest return ive seen on mine is 35mpg which was on a 100 mile journey (mostly motorway).my daily commute is 6 miles in and 6 miles back,i get on average 26mpg.
-
I've got a 32 mile each way trip of A road & dual carriage way & I'm getting 38 sometimes 39/40. Bogo standard non-DSG. :drinking: and don't forget the combined is 35 something.

Cruise helps loads imo
