Retail from VW is less than £35, so grab one from there.

Nice one mate,

Well worth changing, despite VW saying they are not a serviceable item. I changed the original one yesterday on my mk4 R32 and had black silt running out of it when I upended it. I will be changing the mk5 gti one today.
-
Changing mine, due to the car randomly cutting out!! So starting with basics, its not thrown up engine light.
Car has been serviced in past at vw, then at local garages after, but carnt always guarantee they change all filters!!
-
I asked a friend at VW and according to their systems the fuel filter will only ever be chances if it fails from rust etc. Never as part of a service. Daft really

That's because VW life of a vehicle is 7 to 10 years so they never put it on the regime. Same as BMW say the transmission oil in a 7 series never needs changing but now as there is high mileage older cars they use changed their minds.

Did you watch Fifth Gear last night Nathan??
-
Hopefully its just the fuel filter thats at fault, be cleaning throttle body next!

Noooo.... I watched it this morning lol

Just changed mine and got loads of black silt out of it. 2 of the 3 plastic clips fell apart as soon as I touched them sink ended up having to thread a zip tie through the remaining hole to secure it back on. Rang vw and they are part of the fuel line and mega money :sad1: oh well sorted and not leaking
-

Really? Or did you break them by not releasing them correctly?
-
I could see they were the push style to release. They either went brittle or someone else has had a to and given up previously which is what my money is on.
-
Got my fuel filter from vw. Going to fit it in the morn, do i have to clamp fuel lines or anything to stop petrol going everywhere or should abit of petrol come out then stop??
-
Where abouts is the fuel filter? Is it an easy change, would a an absolute novice muppet like me be able to do it?
-
Easy change bud. Jack up car rear drivers side. There are 3 pipes. The connections are a push fit and there is a tab on each one that you need to press in with a screwdriver. Patience is the key for this don't try to rush or pull apart. Did mine yesterday. Took about 20 mins and that included jacking up. Loads of black silt came out of the original one
-
Mine seems happier now it's running a clean fuel filter. The buttons were a fiddle to press on one or two of my fuel pipes.
