Looking at changing my car in the next few months and these are the two cars I'm trying to decide between.
What's people thought on both? If you have either your opinion would be much appreciated.
-
This hasnt been discussed enough has it? haha :drinking:
... more :driver: less :popcornsoda: :happy2:

Depends if you can foot the petrol bill of the s4. Drove an s3 before trying the Eddie. It's a very good car! (8p) thought it would be wrong to own to s3's in a row tho!
-
Coming from a golf I'd say you want the s3, maybe the new saloon version.

Just wanna get some more opinions as it's a hard decision :P
The thing which i don't like about the s3 is that it isn't a v6.
I'm only 20 so Can't afford a brand new saloon, but they're a beautiful car
-
Was just playing man!! :signLOL:
Both good cars but speak to Dave as I said and am sure he will fight the s3's corner pretty well :happy2:
-
Gte the S4, especially the 3.0Supercharged version, 400bhp with a remap and 450 with remap and new pulley :happy2:
-
And about 18 mpg if you drive it properly. Apparently they'll barely scrape 30 on a run and average low 20s. Only thing that put me off getting one.

Geez I wish I'd had that choice of car when I was 20!! Think I was still driving a Nissan Cherry at that age! :ashamed:
-
I'll message him Omar :happy2:
Yeah it would definitely be the 3.0 supercharged one. Funnily enough the s4 is a lot cheaper to insure as well.
Haha I've only that choice of car because when I break mine I'll have A fair bit of money to play with, plus savings.

Made the swap from a stage2+ GTI to a standard facelift S3 a few months ago and am very happy I chose the S3 as a replacement
Performance wise a standard S3 with dsg like mine feels if anything a bit quicker than my GTI did, not sure whether it's down to the 4wd or the dsg or both but it just seems to take off and just keeps going, where as the GTI in anything other than a bone dry road would be struggling for grip with the traction control light flashing away :fighting:
Ride wise the S3 is a fair bit firmer than the GTI but it think audis are in general anyway, the only thing I wasn't happy about the ride was the front being higher than the rear looking like I had some serious weight in the boot :signLOL:
Since then I've had some bilstein B14 coilovers fitted and some other handling mods and it's made it for me perfect :driver:
Also had revo stage1 loaded and the car is a beast to drive so looking forward to stage2+ when my group buy bcs exhaust is made and ready to put on

I'm interested in the charged v6 s4 aswell when I think il replace my gti next summer. Like the look and the power but I've always wanted to know how they drive? Similar to the mk5 gti? Are they sporty or a old man boring drive? Il be 22 when il be looking for a new motor but I don't want a boring car, I know the gti isn't a riot but it's still great.
Sorry if this is a hijack :happy2:

Thank a lot dave
I think I will end up with an s3. My friend who has a mk5 r32 raced his mate who had an s3 and there wasn't really anything in it. Also I believe they're 60+ bhp More standard than a normal gti.
-
Yeah standard they are 265bhp :happy2:
I'd definitely go for the dsg version if I was you, it's the best of both worlds
I'd munched a few R32s in my GTI in the past but was from a rolling start as off the line I would struggle for grip :driver:
Unfortunately not that many mods will swap over due to a totally different interior and the 4wd drivetrain, but that's just an excuse to go out and buy shiney new stuff

I think the s3 is a winner!
Haha nothing like some new shinny stuff :booty:
Thanks for your help dave, much appreciated.

I'd go for the S4. Epic looking cars with a few subtle mods and the tuning potential from just a shortened pulley and a map is unreal. That charger whine as well ;)
-
Maps for the S4 are very very expensive! :stupid:
-
^^^^ Your not wrong. My brother old B8 S4 generic REVO stage 1 map was well over £1000, mind you it made it a bloody monster afterwards.

Lol can't really compare a 3.2 V6 to a 2.0TFSI
S3 has bigger turbo than normal GTI too
Whichever car you go for, you'll be happy lol

We all know on here that an R32 is faster anyway  :popcornsoda:

Dave
Looks 100 times nicer

I'm going to look at an s4 tomorrow but saw one today and they're such a big Car. Pictures are very deceiving. The v6 supercharged sound is incredible, but I think it's a big step size wise from a golf.
-
How can you afford the insurance lol?
-
Maps for the S4 are very very expensive! :stupid:
Yes as S4's have 2 ECU's so basically paying for 2 ECU remaps.
-

My insurance on an s4 is 900 when I'm 21 which is a couple of months away and £1,000 on an s3
-
When i was 21 i was paying 1400 quid on a 1.4tdi polo... how the hell are you getting quotes so low?

+1!!!!!! When I was 23 I was quoted nearly 2k for an S4 and the same for a scooby
-
f*ck knows, that's with adian flux. I was as surprised as you lot are when they told me the price but im going to argue as I paid 4k to insure my first car which was a 1.2 fiat punto
-
I'd double check all the details are right if I was you. Adrian flux refused to insure me when I was that age because I was too young apparently....
-
Don't worry I double checked it was the correct car, engine size etc as I couldn't believe it
