Title: Hired a 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera S
Post by: GE90 on April 04, 2014, 09:58:26 pm
Hi all

To mark my milestone birthday (40), I have hired a 911 Carrera S for the day. However, having trouble planning exactly where to go!

I am in Bromley, and collecting the car in London. I will be with my family - wife, 4 yr and 11 yr old. Problem is that I have a 100 mile limit, although not too much to increase by a little.

Would appreciate any ideas....... Looking for a nice A and B road drive, top pub, somewhere for a short visit (preferably aviation or car related). Would really like to do a tour of some sort. Open to any suggestions, but looks like I will need to stick to Kent and Sussex. This is more difficult than it sounds!!

Cheers!

A21, A26, A272?
Alternatively, A264 from Tunbridge Wells to East Grinstead and onwards to Turners Hill.
Or Penshurst, Leigh, Chiddingstone.

You might be in the South East of England, but you've still got a lot of beautiful roads if you leave everyone else to fight with the M25.  I hope the big day is a weekday - otherwise my best tip is to get up early on a Sunday morning.

There are lots of websites like www.bestbikingroads.com to help you find more.

Let us all know how you got on.

Busy checking this all out.... Collecting tomorrow morning, returning Tues AM!

Someone suggested going to 7Dinner near Brands Hatch, which I know is close to some nice roads.

I hired a 911 s a few years ago for 50 quid for the day with unlimited milage.  :signLOL:

It was either an audi a3 for free or a two week old 911 carrera s for 50 quid so a no brainer lol

I dropped my 911 off for a service though , only 280 quid which I def got back driving that car round all day

Right..... sorry for not updating this sooner.

What can I say, we had a fantastic day. Collected from Kensington just fine, out of London in no time, and ended up heading to Edenbridge for a bite to eat and visited Chiddingstone Castle.

The car... Amazing. I have been fortunate to own some great cars, but nothing comes close to the real pedigree of the 911. Some observations:

From getting in the car, to driving away, with the sat nav and mirrors etc set, only took minutes! All very easy and intuitive.
The sound coming from the back is simply amazing.
Ride was unbelievably compliant.
Performance was as expected, great in any gear, and revs.
Traction a bit of a problem only when provoked, which had to be done while the roads were wet!
The car was only 2 weeks old, so as new.
I just couldn't believe how good it looked, especially with the spoiler up.
Cannot understand the purpose of the Turbo S model in this country......
I want one!

If anyone wants any info in connection with hiring one for the day, I happy to help, as Avis were brilliant (allowed an extra hour to return, and did not charge for the few miles that I went over the allowance)
