I've had my GTI about 6 weeks now so thought I get a project thread started!
It is a 2005 with full dealer / specialist history on 67k
Before this, as you may have guessed I had a clio 182.

Absolutely brilliant car! So much fun to drive, and is as quick as a lot of cars that you just wouldn't expect it would keep up with.
Anyone who thinks French cars are crap need to take one of these out for a drive.
Anyway, back to the golf. I managed to pick one up with a fair few extras;
Monza II's
Xenons
Auto wipers & Lights
Coming home lights
MFSW
Bluetooth (no idea how to get it working)
Charcoal headlining (Is this standard on all gti's?)
cooled glove box (Is this standard?)
on to the crappy I phone pictures!

So far I have had the cam-belt & water pump changed and I have bought a new tailgate handle (not the one in the pictures)
Plans are to replace the cam follower and DV with a rev G first followed by some other goodies that I will update as I go along :)
-
Looks really tidy and you got some really nice extras there, its worth remembering that heated wing mirrors was also part of the pack that the auto lights/wipers came in so you should have those too.
Also its had the lower valance colour coded which is a nice bonus, really completes the look of the car in my opinion :happy2:
-
thanks! yeah it has the heated wing mirrors too, I forgot about that.
yeah the colour coding is something I would have done myself so a nice bonus that this one has already been done!
-
Nice car mate, once them Pascara's are on it'll look sweet with a set of coillies
-
yeah looking forward to getting them! I'm going for springs rather than coilovers this time. try to keep some of the OEM comfort lol
-
first set of goodies were purchased at the weekend :) looking forward to getting them all on!

Had the GTI in at Tuning Developments over the weekend while I was over in the Emerald isle
Quite a bit of work done:
Front Mount Intercooler & Hard Pipework
Rev G Diverter Valve
Replaced Cam Follower
Replaced PVC Valve with the newest version
H&R Springs
Live Remap
Before the work the car made 163 BHP and 183 LBFT due to the boost leaks from the DV and the s**tty intercooler pipes. Once the everything was fitted and the map was done it made 230 BHP and 300 LBFT. So quite a difference! Feels like a whole different car, There is power no matter what gear you are in and no matter where you are in the rev range. Money well spent im sure you will agree!
Very pleased with the figures it has achieved as the rolling road at TD is known as the Heartbreaker lol. So you know the figures you are getting are the ones the car is making unlike other rollers!
Next on the list is a RARB and Polybushes all round.
-
Lovely example mate. Colour coded looks so much better.
Wow after remap be drives like a new car!
Si
-
thanks, yeah I think so too! looks cleaner.
it really does, the power delivery is so much better, how the gti should have been out of the box!
-
Chris get them pescaras on :signLOL: hope you and the GTi are well mate :happy2:
-
haha i will be doing in the next week or so! I need to update this tread lol. yeah both doing well :) how's yours now the engine etc is sorted?
-
Yeah she's purring now mate  be good to see the wheels in mate :happy2:
-
good stuff! glad it's back on the road. I'll try to get this updated this weekend. the wheels should be on in a week or so, just need some tyres. getting poly bushed all round on Tuesday so will be after that!
-
How much you paying for that mate, it's something I want doing ?
-
The Polybush kit was about £130 iirc. I dunno have much fitting is gonna be till its done haha. My mates at Tuning Developments are fitting them so i will let you know how much it all came to on Tuesday :drinking:
Somehow my rear arb snapped too but i've managed to bag an ED30 one for £27 delivered. (i'd have got a whiteline etc but that will have to wait till i've bought my tyres / polybushes etc)
-
That's cheap mate! Is that all like 15 positions ????
How did you manage to snap it hahaha that's some serious off road driving experience isn't :signLOL:
-
I got it at cost. I'd have to check the price it could well have been £230 thinking about it
It isnt the entire 15, it is the front wishbone bushes, front and rear anti roll bar bushes and the lower engine mounts
haha yeah I have no idea how it snapped! I think it might have just corroded. :driver:
-
nice mate, i want the entire 15 for mine with some new suspension after stage 2+ soon.
i need a clutch and fuel pump aswell... slipery slope really is a barstewards hahaha
be a nice firm ride once youve done yours today mate :happy2: :driver:
-
haha yeah I will probs do the rest at some point. I've spent about £2500 on it already and I've only had it since feb so just trying to stagger things now! need to get back into saving a decent amount each month for moving out lol. is your clutch slipping or you just worried that it's gonna go?
-
Nice thread, Chris :happy2: Post some more pictures up
-
haha yeah I will probs do the rest at some point. I've spent about £2500 on it already and I've only had it since feb so just trying to stagger things now! need to get back into saving a decent amount each month for moving out lol. is your clutch slipping or you just worried that it's gonna go?
Yeah wish I'd staggered it out but the cash was there and the car wanted presents so was a no brainer, not buying a house till the end of the year so the missus said spend what you want now because once we've bought the house I'll be doing things monthly instead of weekly lol after she said that I got 2 sleeves done and spent nearly 6/7K on the car :P of course she thinks I've spent about 4K max :innocent:
Yeah it slips in high gears when I accelerate from about 3-4K quite annoying but I knew it would happen.
Going on holiday in 4 weeks so will have it changed to a helix jobbie that a few members in here are running.
If you ever get unsure on parts or what to look at MC71 is the wizard lol blokes read almost everything about these lol I've had many chats with Martin on here and he really opened my eyes into what's best and what to look at. He will give you his time to help you as well, really nice bloke.
Be good to see some pics up soon mate
-
cheers Shane! I'll try to get some up tomorrow :)
-
haha yeah good idea, once you have moved out that will take a fair bit of your free cash!!
yeah well that's it, it a risk you take when tuning it so it's not like it's an unexpected bill!
cool I'll have a search :)
yeah I'll try and get some more up tomorrow. I'm slacking haha! just been painting the hubs as they were all rusty and needed sprucing up before the pescaras go on but forgot to take before and afters :(
-
I'm waiting for my calipers to dry as we speak so I can put the final coat in them do the hubs and retaining clips
-
haha sunny day so optimum paint drying weather :p
-
Certainly is mate, hopefully won't brodge the decals up hahaha
-
Good progress so far
-
Over the weekend I managed to paint my wheel hubs as they were looking a little worse for wear! I forgot to take some before and after shots (as usual) So just got one after the wheels were back on lol
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fg386%2Fchrissharrock%2Fphoto61_zps8a650c64.jpg&hash=ce735ab52ea54a6cbda267e9d549fb8a9749f835)
Also tried to get a snap of my new intercooler. I think it sits well, hardly noticeable but can be spotted by the trained eye! :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fg386%2Fchrissharrock%2Fphoto12_zps3022419f.jpg&hash=fe67d90b1e8cec6ba2f404afdc0577bded828c6d)
While the weather was nice yesterday I managed to give the GTI its first detail of my ownership which consisted of : Wash, Clay, Re-wash, Machine Polish with AF Tripple, Hand apply Poorboys White Diamond, Hand apply Poorboys Natty's Paste Wax. Silver is quite a hard colour to achieve some depth with but I think it came up really well!
The pics show it sitting on my new H&Rs I had fitted a few weeks back, I'm really happy with the height and the ride, personally I think the rise is better than standard.
Since I bought the car I have also fitted a Rev G DV, Replaced the PVC and cam follower, fitted a FMIC with hardpiping, replaced the cambelt & water pump and had it remapped. Before the work was done it made 163 bhp and 187 lbft and once everything was done it made 230 bhp and 300 lbft. so rather pleased with the results, the car drives 100X better and mpg has slightly increased!

great work there mate, intercooler looks great snuggled up behind the bumper honey comb.
163bhp?? boost leak? GTi K03 is meant to 197 isnt it?
-
haha yeah it is. That was before the DV and boost pipes were replaced. lots of boost leak! lol
-
ouch !! glad its sorted mate :happy2:
-
Just picked the golf up after having the rear ARB replaced and the poly bushes done and new drop links. feels much tighter now. should be more noticeable once I get these ditch finder tyres off!
-

Looks like that makes both of us fitted rear ARB on Friday :pomppomp:

BTCC was quality, the weather was good yeah I got sunburnt lol

Sunburn is a **** :fighting: would of gone to the btcc but was mega busy this weekend, friends went though
-
so the week before last I managed to get my whiteline RARB and adjustable drop links fitted along with 4 wheel alignment. Totally transformed the car and now feels like it actually wants to go round a corner :)
Today was payday, so my car has decided to throw an eml light on the way home! great! Booked in for Friday to find out what that's all about, looks like I'll be taking it easy for the next few days :/ will have to use the car still as I need it to get to work :(
-
Lovely car mate :)
-
Cheers :)
The EML light was caused by a leaking evaporation tank, never even heard of one... £165 later and it is as good as new. Hopefully that is the last of the spending for a little while, I want to spend my summer enjoying driving it and getting to some shows
I do fancy a RCD/RNS 510 but that can wait for a little while now so I can save some more money towards my house deposit
-
:happy2:

Nipped into Manchester on Saturday night to get an Archie's Milkshake with the gf (if you live near, go and get one!) while the car was parked in the car park I tried to get some decent shots, but the lack of skills and only having an iphone to hand didn't really help!

Currently saving up for a RCD / RNS unit so hopefully will have one fitted in the next month or so! also currently refurbing my monzas as they were covered in white worm so will get some pics up of those when i'm finished.
Chris
-
Last week I managed to get my front arches approved for warranty at Lightcliffe VW Liverpool  So its booked in for a week as of the 6th while they give me a hire car... I don't think it will be a Mk7 GTI though :sad1: lol.
I've also finished refurbing my Monza IIs as they were F**ked! I'm quite please with the result as it was my first ever attempt and only done with rattle cans...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fg386%2Fchrissharrock%2F811E8EFD-65C5-41EC-AACC-270014D77163_zps5ozd81kj.jpg&hash=132a44e6bf20ea16393ecc9a008bed979c4b6a8f)

They should do nicely over the winter anyway. (excuse the sh*te tyres, they came with the car! the pescaras are fitted with Conti's :happy2:)
Also bagged myself an RCD510 from @golfman and ordered a new gateway from Eddie so will get these fitted as soon as they arrive!
Chris
-
So the car is back from VW with two brand new arches and repaired sills all 100% under warranty :) Lightcliffe have done a really good job, and I got the joy of driving around in a Honda Jazz courtesy car for a week!
Also a few weeks back, I picked up an RCD510 which is now fitted. The sound quality is 100X better and also makes the interior look that bit more modern.

Car looks great buddy. The wheels you did yourself look especially good, want to do mine? :signLOL:
Thanks
it was actually quite easy, just need patience is all lol!
-
Lookin good mate, loving the reflex silver and some nice touches.
-
thanks :)
-
Clean motor mate!
-
So Yesterday the Golf failed it's mot...
Needs to new outer CV Gaitors to pass, so it is having these replaced tomorrow and re tested on Friday.
It also has a binding rear caliper which i will take a look at, though this was only an advisory.
On another note, my alarm siren randomly goes off while driving, just the siren, not the hazards. I heard this morning it could be down to the battery in the key? something to do with the immobiliser. Does this sound right to anyone? I will try using the other key for a while once I get home tonight!
-
Car looks great, very fresh and clean looking. :happy2:
-
