wasnt happy with the catch can as the car seemed to be slower with it fitted so i have returned it to stock, the power was then good and bad surging, but now the power seems down and its seriosly blowing oil out of the cap! got it booked in at vw in the morning
-
:scared:
-
I thought you are down at vwr tomorrow with me? What and how has this happened just by fitting a can
-
i know im well p###ed off, i think its been getting worse and now its undrivable! i have just cleaned the rocker cover and all the pipes etc and went down to the bottom of the road and back and the rocker cover and underside of the engine cover is covered its spraying out of the cap, its everywhere :sad1:
gonna have to cancel vwr, dont know if i dare drive it to the dealers.
-
Surely VW will charge you a fortune to look at this as it's not an OEM part? Who fitted it for you?
-
Sh1t mate that's not good :surprised: have u taken the can off and put it to stock?
-
yeh the can is off and its back to stock. it still the same even stock and with the remap turned off just tried everything i can think of today. somethings gone thats for sure
-
Is the oil coming from the cover plate that the can replaces? Maybe a seal is not pushed back correctly
-
thats what i thought originaly too mate, so i checked all the gasket and the o rings, but iam 90% sure its coming from the cap, could fitting the catch can have made it worse?
-
The oil filter cap :surprised: do u want me to come have a look?
-
:scared: I'm watching this thread with fear now as I've just fitted my can........

How long did you run it with the catch can on?. Was the tap at the bottom closed or left open?. Needs to be wound all the way down to be in the closed position.
-
i ran it for a week, why would leaving the drain off open cause my problem?

I don,t know enough about the closed recirculation system to answer that but if thats whats happenned it could have set off a chain of engine errors leading to your symptons. I,m sure someone with more technical knowledge could shed some light on it.
-
something to do with the crankcase check valve maybe? to be honest i did run it open for a day until i realised, but after that everything was ok. it was a week after and when i removed it the problem started??
-

It shouldn't as you would effectively just be running a "vent to atmosphere" set up but will a slight loss of boost.
-
I would suggest somethings gone wrong with your install, then when you tried to revert to normal its persisted.
oil out of the cap is a symptom not the cause. somethings the wrong way round pressurising your crankcase.
Im sure the dealer will sort it out. no worries
of note be careful you dont run out of oil in the meantime!
-
ok cheers for the advice, the oil is ok just checked.

I drove all the way to Germany with the tap open and ran fine with no loss of Boost whatsoever! :innocent:

Any news as yet?
P.S. Air Filter was posted last Friday so you should get it any day! :happy2:
-
no call from vw yet.... got the airfilter on saturday thanks alot for that mate :drinking:

that car was in boost all the way there and all the way back! ;)

Sounds like the valve is the wrong way around/stuck?? I'd have expected it to p*** oil down the inlet, rather than back up and blow out of the cap.
Crawl there ASAP.
-
ok just thinking here, if i blew down the pipe from the inlet manifold to the rocker cover should there be some resistance or not because i did and there was no resistance it was as free as a bird
-
So what have VW said? If this as you say is an issue with the PCV fix we all have I for one would like to know. If not we need to clear this matter up. :happy2:
-
vw just rang and said it was the fuel delivery unit and a few seals etc, it should be ready tommorow. what is one of those?
-
Ok so we can clarify it is nothing to do with the BCH Catch can then?
-
Great thread... I (we) could do with some one distiling and summarising the issue and what was replaced.
Thanks...
-
will find out today :happy2:
-
Fuel delivery unit? As in fuel pump?
-
cam follower maybe
-
update so far, its not a fuel delivery unit... he got mixed up
they have replaced the cam chain and tensioners as they needed doing apparently, and the breather regulator on the rocker cover, and its still doing it, they have ordered a cranckcase breather but its on factory back order so could be upto a week.
sweet :sad1:
-
i still think the cam follower might need replacing
-
a worn cam folower wouldnt spray oil or fuel everywhere though surely!
-
I hope all this will be done under warranty?
-

yep thats exactly what i recon, they have fitted the newer plastic rocker cover breather, and are waiting for the metal crankcase one to arrive, i have just bought the eurojet check valve to fit when i put the remap back on
-
Did u have the Eurojet fix in the first place?

These parts are starting to become a problem I think. Mine need doing.
-
got the car back and they have fixed it by fitting the new turbo/crankase breather its the revised part :jumpmove:
-
still not sure why the car bust this valve imediately after removing the catch can but it does seem strange to me. anyway just glad its all sorted out
-
noticed today that theres still oil round the cap, so went for a spirited drive when i got back there is alot of oil around the cap again, not as bad as before but still alarming, i took the pcv valve in bits to check the diaphram and its ok but it doesnt look like a new one at all, very crusty oil etc they told me they had fitted a new one. should i take it back or just buy a new pcv and fit it myself? leaving the car etc is a pain
