I'm getting the console bushes replaced in a couple of weeks. Is there any merit in upgrading to the A3 Sport ones and does anyone know the difference in cost to the standard VW bushes? Thx
-
The S3 consoles and TT consoles are solid and don't allow the front arms to move about like the oe ones that are voided bushes. When I did mine it was one of the best handling mods for the money.

Shameless plug but i have a set of S3 console bushes in good condition in the for sale section :happy2:

Solid bushes are a must. A great mod. I used polyurethane ones from TSR when I re-bushed mine. I gives a great solid feel to the front.

My polybush kit will be here on Monday!

i replaced mine for solid ones and it made a huge difference bud, very easy to do but don't forget to reset the tracking afterwards.

Cheers guys. thanks for the offer but gonna go for a new set, seems false economy to fit used parts. Thanks for the advise on the tracking.

if your going to buy OEM solid console bushes then your after
1K0199231N for passenger side
1K0199232N for drivers side approx 60 quid each loads on ebay for about 35 quid

So s3 OEM ones are solid? My steering feels a bit wooley and not direct so wonder if these are wearing out

If doing the job, then for the cost difference you might as well fit new S3 arms complete with new bushes - how they're supplied from Audi / TPS. That way the fronts (which often start to creak) are replaced too, along with the ball joint (unless you opt not to for some reason).

If it helps,
I bought the solid bushes from Audi and pressed them in, part number 8z0 407 183 about £13 each

How much are the complete s3 arms out of interest? Do they still have solid bushes?

Is this like an OE version of the walk or salk just using standard rubber rather than polyurethane?
-
They are std rubber but are solid bushes so are more robust than the oe voided bushes already fitted to the mk5 platform.
-
I recommend this modification... Made such a difference on turn in and feel. :happy2:
