Title: RNS510 fault.
Post by: Viking on April 10, 2014, 09:37:01 pm
Picked up a second hand RNS510 as spares or repair dirt cheap. It was really only to replace a dvd drive in my spare unit, and rather than buy just a dvd drive I got the whole unit for half the price of the cheapest second hand drive I could find. So, pinched the drive out of it and installed it in mine, and all fixed. Then I thought I'd have a look at the other one.

Stripped it a bit, and found this...

Would you think that's the problem?...

Aye, I reckon maybe a failed firmware update. What do you think?

I've tried a piece of black insulating tape over the crack, but I'm not sure it made any difference. Not sure what else I can try.

Try filling the crack with glue from a hot glue gun, it contains a small amount of silicon so should work.

I'm starting to think the guy who sold it knew it was fecked.

Oh well, I can always use it as a door stop.

You can sometimes find replacement boards on ebay but they are pretty rare.

Yeah, but I'll need a replacement board and a dvd drive as well. Cost nearly as much as a new unit.
