Something which I've not heard or read people talk about on this forum is the use of Octane Boost & fuel additives.
I used to use Millers Octane Plus on my previous 1.8T car to mainly improve performance and keep the injectors/fuelling and valves clear and free from gunk. There was a noticeable improvement with performance to which I was really impressed with.
Millers Octane Plus enhances performance by increasing octane values up to 2 numbers (20 points).

I'm tempted to try as a one off try Millers CVL Turbo (Use with modern fuels to increase octane levels by up to 4 octane numbers (40 points)

I have read that the CVL turbo version can only be used now and then as it can affect the catalyst not sure if that's just from a standard point of view or whether sports/race catalyst are also affected. Obviously those with de-cats need not worry
Does anyone use such things and what our the findings? :happy2:

A couple of mates use it on trackdays in their Evo and Scooby - they swear by it as they say it improves the initial punch out of corners and seems to help the car rev out quicker. They put 2 bottles in a tank.
-
hmm could this not cause side effects and add increased wear on our newer engines?
-
I would treat it as a very short term fix - just pour in a couple of bottles - turn the boost up and see what happens :driver: :jumping:
-
I used CVL turbo on my 1.8t S3. Good . Noticable improvement. Enabled us to run more advance on timing. But, of course, you have to run it all the time or have switchable maps to take advantage like this.

i've ran millers cvl turbo on the revo 100+ setting on the rocco for a tank and was great fun and accessed the power available on that map, would only be an occassional thing though
-
Hmm,
I know a dealer locally for this, so may give it a whirl
-
My mate used to stick this in his R32, bang the timing right forward and it was an absolute animal - I mean a completely different car... expensive addiction though, mind.

Would one share such information with a fellow local mk5 owner

There was a test done recently by "WHICH" magazine (October edition) that said none of these things actually work.
Is there any documentary evidence to say these things work rather than the "Google Experts" say so?

Did which test them in tuned cars ? i.e cars that had been modified to take advantage of the extra octane ?
Chris.

I dont think any of the cars were tuned.
But a lot of modern cars ECU will react to the change of octane anyway. Hence with the 2.0 TFSi VAG state it will have less performance and MPG on 95Ron over 98Ron
Just as a side. I lived in germany for 2 years. There Shell V-Power is 100 Octane. My Car (which is at REVO Stage 2+ now) has never made any difference on a RR with 99 or 100 Octane. The MPG was as near as makes no difference the same aswell.
Maybe the one that boosts the octane by 4 (so would turn V-Power into 103 Octane) would have some effect but the others i would be inclined to say are more of a Placebo effect than anything else
Just my Opinion.

This would be interesting when added to the Tesco 99RON I use in my GTi!!!! :happy2:

I used the Millers on a prev car I owned and i know of a guy on SCN who uses it on 1/4 days.
I am at the wholesalers on Fri or Sat so might see if i can better that price.

There was a test done on 5th Gear which basically proved V-Power and the likes were useless on an un-modified car.. on a modified engine, i.e. if you've manually advanced the timing (The OEM parameters will not advance to these levels) then the higher octane will stop the ECU pulling the timing back and give more power.
The benefits of 99/100 on a stock car will be nigh on nothing in an N/A and 2-3%+ maybe on a turbo - so you'd not really notice.
Only the few will see a benefit, you've got to help the engine get the most from the fuel.
As far as I know his old R32 still holds the record for the fastest N/A R32 1/4mile in the UK... beating so called stage 2 remapped/modified ones.

My friend actually imports a lot of engine additives and even he admits they are a waste of money!
