Anyone have their mirror glass come away from the panel like this?

looks like its just come away from the clips, phoned up vw and they wanted £56 for a new one :scared: anyone know anywhere doing them cheaper?
decided a temp job with some hard core double sided tape may work instead

£7 for some double sided tape it best be a more permanent fix than I'm hoping for!

Not seen many on vw but on the audi's this is very commen the backing clue becomes unstuck from the glass
-
had this happen on my polo, replaced the whole thing (including plastic) from a 3rd party for about £10 IIRC. There's just a small wire to un-attach for the heated mirror.
-
Happened both sides of mine 56' gti. Double sided tape ftw :happy2:
-
Yup! My passenger went about 4 months ago. Managed to get a genuine replacement off eBay. My drivers side is now shaking like a good un so il be keeping another beady eye on the bay to replace. Especially as £56 for a replacement from VW :surprised:
-
Isn't this down to leaving the heated mirror selected too long and melts the glue fixings??
-
Yeah my driver side mirror almost came off 2 months ago! :surprised: Was driving on the motorway and had a glance at my wing mirror only to have a lovely view of blue skies instead! It was just barely hanging on so I had to slowly coast off the junction and stop at a nearby petrol station asking if they sell sellotape which bemused the shopkeeper at the time!
I think the adhesive must have worn off due to the heating properties of the wing mirror so I bonded it with Evo-Stik Serious Glue and had no problems since.
-
In the past i have used Silicon sealant, Hot glue gun or grab adhesive like no more nails.
-
This is happening on mine currently which aren't heated as far as I know.. Double sided tape will do the job
-
Just bought new one on eBay for 8 quid

There is an option to turn them on and off?
-
Instead of leaving the switch on heated mirrors, turn it to L, R or O
-
Doesn't the heated element only work for 10 minutes before switching off?
-
Mine never came off luckily, but one time it started flapping loads so needed sticking back down
-
I thought my passenger one was wobbly when driving yesturday but pushed and play around with it and it was fine
Knowing my luck it will fall off when I drive my car next
-
My driver's side dropped off at 70mph on the dual carriageway on holiday...bloody annoying driving without one for a week. Got a genuine one for £39 on fleabay after checking with the stealers. Realised after fitting my mirrors had never worked properly (ie Passengers moves in sync with drivers when adjusting driver's side) Thought it was a fault until I looked it up
-
When this happened to me i bought the whole glass+plastic backing for £22 from ECP.
Use the electric mirros to turn the mirror towards the car and the put a screwdriver between the back of the black plastic and your mirror casing.
(I put a cloth of some description between the screwdriver and the casing to prevent damage)
Then gently push the black plastic away from the casing and it should pop out, then replace with the new glass/plastic by just clipping back it.
Job done

Yeah mine came loose

Didn't spot this thread but I had exactly the same issue a couple of months ago. Just bought some cheap mirror glass of eBay and replaced it. Nice to know I wasn't the only one with the problem

Good idea
