Title: Front VW badge
Post by: monte on October 14, 2009, 10:58:54 am
Can anyone tell me how much the Front VW badges cost from the Stealers?
Recently I painted mine Satin Black!( to a real high quality finish-might I add) and I am just not struck on it. Don't get me wrong, I think the blacked out front badges look awesome on every colour GTi,......except reflex Silver. I dont know what it is about the chrome one.....It just looks better than the black one on my car. :sad1:

Monte if your coming to the blackpool meet at the weekend then i will swap with you. Mine has the carbon wrap on it at the minute so you can see if this suits your car more, if not then you can just pull it off and your back to chrome.  :happy2:

Of course you could always go for a carbon fibre one. No paint chips and a little bling for the front end.
Goes well with silver too :happy2:

Are the front ones easy to swap over? After seeing that image I think I fancy a black one, to complement my black car.

They are once the front grill is off. Not recommended to try and remove without the grille off as once the tabs are damaged it makes it easier for the theiving little Beastie Boys to nick em!  :fighting:

.........i did mine in about 30 seconds without taking the grill off.All i did was lift bonet, get a tin of wd40 fit the extension tube & spray  round the back of the badge & then squirt through the front of the badge.Leave it a couple of mins to soak in & then twist badge about a quarter turn anti clockwise & the badge comes out.Simples.

Its really easy 4 torx screws to undo then just lift off, its that easy i have started taking mine off to wash the car its easier to dry the grill when off the car.  :happy2:

Hurdy,
I know this is going to look like I pretty much want a copy of your car, what with having the same stereo and all, but where did you get teh badge from? Was it the group buy? Are there still any available, as I am having the carbon style vinyl done on the front think that the badge would look cool with it.

Got my badge this morning, and have fitted it, using the 30° rotation method. I'm very pleased with it!

Not too exciting you might say, however this, although it's only a small change, represents my first foray into the world of modding!

Just twist anti-clockwise was the method I used too :happy2: The black badge looked Ok on mine, but on a silver car I prefer the standard badge.
What color is your car Andrew? They really do look great on the BMP GTi's

Any more pics? Is the carbon on the face or inside the badge too?

Can anyone explain how to get the front badge out as I thought it was as simple as pulling it out but clearly not unlike my mk2 golf's!  :innocent:

Thanks

Vick

It easy. I just grabbed hold by putting my fingers in the holes in between the V and the W and turn it to the left. It should then just pull out! :happy2:

:sad1:   EDIT* Please DON'T use this method, as the clips on the back of the badge can break*    :sad1:

Carlo,

I agree with you, i couldnt picture my badge black... i didnt seem to think it would go well with silver.

You dont need to do anything with the once you've lowered the car.

Keep it subtle looking  :happy2:

If you do it this way you can easy snap the clips.  :sad1:

It only takes about 2 minutes to take the grill off and do it properly. 4 torx screws and its done.  :happy2:

Damn :jumping: I read TC's post too and I was hoping it would all go smoothly for you mate. If I would have known there was any risk of breakage I would not have suggested this  :sad1: I read the twist method somewhere and went straight ahead and did it. I had no problems with mine, although I did notice after taking it out and putting it back in alot of times, it did feel a little looser.

I will edit my earlier post now, so that others that may read the thread wont use this method :happy2:

I took mine out by simply sticking my fingers in, rotating it anti-clockwise then pulling out. That's the way it's meant to be done according to VW. I had no problems when I did this. You must have been unlucky

Dude your way worked fine but when I removed it I was bending the clips and managed to snap one as it felt loose so i was 'adjusting' then to make it tighter  :ashamed:
