Ok so as some of you may know unfortunately my GTI was written off in an accident in January, which I was absolutely gutted about, but I had already had plans in a year or so to move on to another car and this just made my decision a bit sooner than anticipated
For me I wanted to stay in the VAG stable and initially thought about just going out and getting another GTI straight away  but after sitting down and thinking about it any GTI I got would have to be an edition30 for the extra tuning potential and limited edition garnish
However I was not enjoying the wheel spin and traction issues I was having with my stage2+ GTI in damp and wet conditions and so adding more power for me personally would not be a good idea unless I wanted to invest a lot of money into the car
I narrowed my search down to two choices, a mk6 golf R and a facelift audi S3
Looking around it became obvious that a golf R was out of my price range and so began the hunt for a 3dr dsg S3
After some searching I found a very nice silver 3dr dsg S3 and it was love at first sight
This is how it looked when going for a test drive

Totally standard apart from a black edition front grill surround
Even in standard form it felt quicker than my GTI and the traction and grip was immense :driver:
First off I wanted to get my wheels and brakes swapped over from the GTI and address the reverse rake the standard suspension has so gave Alex a call at AKS and started the ball rolling with the following mods -
Bilstein B14 coilovers
Superpro ALK
H&R front and rear arbs
Db9 astons fitted
TT top mounts
Alignment
Revo stage 1
Ended up being an all day marathon but at the end of it the car looked and handled spot on

Now that was all I had planned for quite a while but I've got two friends on here that are bad influences plus Alex was tempting me with all sorts of goodies :signLOL:
So a deal was made and a kind of mini group buy set up for this little lot to be fitted
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps60135a10.jpg&hash=3ef90767dd463e48bfa3421e3f18668ac45afcef)
So my engine bay went from this

That's how it stands at the moment but I've ordered a BCS full exhaust in the group buy and already have the loba hpfp in place to go stage2+ when that's fitted in a week or so
Here's a few pics after a good clean a few weeks back before early edition

Looking forward to trying out the new chemical guys stuff I've just got when the weather starts behaving itself :fighting:
That's about it for now thanks for reading
Dave :drinking:
-
Looking great so far Dave liking the engine bay, keep up the good work & your build thread. :happy2:
-
Yummy stuff Dave!!
-
Looks lovely. And if its anything like your GTI, this will be a cracker!
-
Think I see this at pod, spring fest? Brakes are awesome!
-
Can't wait to see this Sunday :happy2:
-
Thanks guys got a few small ideas in mind :innocent:
Yeah was at spring fest testing her out :driver:
Was getting 14.1 just a standard start without revs or launch and managed 13.2 twice with launch
Just about to try manual shifting to try and eek out a bit more, maybe sneak under 13 and it started to spit with rain just as I got to the front of the queue :signLOL:
Surprised myself staying with the 14 plate s4 estate that turned up
Dave
-
Good choice on the wheels
-
very nice m8,a worthy upgrade
-
Nice s3 Dave--excellent mods
-
Quality Dave, I hope I'm not the 'bad influence' :signLOL:
-
Looks well nice mate. Someone at work has a sportback in the same colour, really suits it
-
Very nice mate...what brake discs are you using?daveb discs?
My car is going into Aks for major surgery in June...
-
:popcornsoda:
-
Hi Dave, sorry to hear about your GTI. Your new S3 looks very nice though, I bet it grips a lot better too! Liking your brakes. :happy2:
-
I've been waiting for you to do a thread. Looks awesome mate!
-
Looks killer, love the brakes

I'm always up for a good old deal :innocent:
-
Loving those brakes! Nice to see a Silver s3 once in a while, looks fresh!
-
Cracking motor mate, love these s3's, will hopefully get a dsg sportback one myself next year.
at least you managed to save most of the bits from your golf to bolt on.
-
Best shape S3 out there
Plans for this car looks epic
-
Lovely
-
Thanks for the kind comments guys :drinking:
Jussa - yes you are a bad influence along with Marvin :signLOL:
Dan930 - they are the 370mm bbk Alex was doing a while back, basically a 4pot brembo with a floating disc cooked up by Alex and daveB. Believe mike has a set but with the red brembo calipers instead of my black db9 ones
Mandy - yeah the grip level is immense and traction isn't an issue in any conditions, bet you're loving the difference of your R too
Mvb12 - always up for a good deal and I hold you responsible for the speed at which my cars coming along
Paul_zx6r - thanks Paul you won't be disappointed if you get one :happy2: unfortunately most of my mods won't swap over from the GTI :sad1: the exhaust is routed differently, arbs are different spec, suspension too and obviously the interior is a no go too so virtually starting from scratch and selling off the old parts I can recover  only real straight swaps saw the brakes, wheels and engine cover :stupid:

Looks fu**ing cool Dave! The black grille works a treat with the TD's in gloss black. Very aggressive looking which I love about the classy 8P3 shape, coming from a fellow owner with a slightly different aggro look :happy2:
I bet it drives very well.
Look forward to seeing it's progress.

Thanks Pete, was kinda lucky as it already had the black edition grill fitted so saved me a job, was looking into it before I got it so saved me the aggro of dropping the bumper to fit one myself :happy2:
Thinking about maybe black front and rear rings but not sure if it'd be too much
Also maybe getting the rear diffuser and front centre lip painted gloss black?
Dave

I've avoided doing mine black because everyone does it  and I've got a grey on black theme going, but it might work on yours nicely.
Gloss might work nicely. I want to make mine more silver so it would emphasise the bumper shape and make it look wider, help to add contrast etc...
Chose a good one if that's the case :happy2:

Very nice.

Not much of an update but tried out the chemical guys stuff I received last week
Gotta say I'm very impressed with the ecosmartRU waterless detailing spray :notworthy:
Only cleaned the car thoroughly last week and didn't have enough time today to give it the full Monty so broke out the ecosmartRU, very easy to use and is a genuine spray on and wipe off product
Gave a lovely smooth silky finish to the paint with not much work and hardly any elbow grease, just spray on wipe over with a microfibre cloth and buff off with a clean dry one :star:
Found it is great with glass too as I didn't need to get out my dedicated glass cleaner aswell
Was sceptical about it being great on brake dust and wheels but again it did the job without much fuss and pretty much used just that and some Meguiars gloss tyre spray and I was done
On another note I finally put on my revo gameover sticker in the rear window, only a small subtle one

Went to VW about my rust warranty on the wings but they tried saying the wings have been repainted so they wont cover it. So thought might aswell get the full front end resprayed & mirror caps as I've got to pay the bill.

Seems like some dealers will try anything to get out of it :fighting:
Did you try a few different dealers? They all give different opinions on rusty wings :stupid:

Tried 2 different dealers, 1 said the above ^ and the other said they would cover 10% which at there prices I was better off going elsewhere.

Just Bought one on eBay 32gb sandisk sd card £11.95 :happy2:

Yeah they do like to charge a hell of a lot :fighting:
Got rear ended by a kid last year in my golf and the bill for a new votex rear valance painted and fitted was like £900
At least this way you'll have a mint front end instead of just the wings that should last you well
-
Just Bought one on eBay 32gb sandisk sd card £11.95 :happy2:
You don't hang about :congrats:
Can either store the mp3 in folders or random on the card
Also it'll manage multiple albums under the same artist in a tree without any problems :happy2:

Depending on your budget keep an eye out for the same Porsche kit Marvin has on his car, standard discs, saves some weight and increased braking performance, hard to beat for the money
Or go mental and get some big stoppers

Not personally had the Porsche set up but it's a pretty decent weight saving per corner over the very heavy S3 setup, better pedal feel, OEM disc and and decent up rated pad and it's supposed to be very good
Half way house again would be some ttrs calipers but the standard discs are heavy unless you got similar to mine and DanGBs floating discs but price starts going up very quickly the lighter the setup
Maybe blag a spin in Marvin's at the next meet to see if you like the pedal feel and think they are worth the upgrade, only heard great things from Marvin about them, was like a Cheshire Cat driving home along side him from Alex's after they were fitted :signLOL:

When the s3 where delivered I though f*ck me they weigh a ton :ashamed: I don't want to spend more than £5-600 in all honestly I know I'll probally get half of that for my s3 set up so I'm quite happy with the porsche cost compared to £1.2K + for your 13foot discs and Aston calipers
I'll see what marvin says lol I'll do a switch with him for a spin in mine for a spin in his haha!

Don't think Marvin will need much convincing to have a little spin in yours for a go of his brakes :driver:
Only problem you'd have is finding a set that somebody is selling, they don't come up very often, or maybe contact Alex or daveB to see if they can help you out :happy2:

After today's meet I want a bigger brake kit :innocent:
Depending on your budget keep an eye out for the same Porsche kit Marvin has on his car, standard discs, saves some weight and increased braking performance, hard to beat for the money
Or go mental and get some big stoppers
Would you favour the porsche over s3 set up? Or have you not had both kits
Haha yeah I thought the same when I felt a set of S3s
Don't think Marvin will need much convincing to have a little spin in yours for a go of his brakes :driver:
Only problem you'd have is finding a set that somebody is selling, they don't come up very often, or maybe contact Alex or daveB to see if they can help you out :happy2:
Haha I'll ask him next time  I've think I've seen 1-2 sets on here so I recon after a week if no one pipes up with a set I'll message dave and RING Alex :signLOL:
-
Tbh Dave's even harder to get hold of :signLOL:
He's a very busy guy but Alex you need to call for sure his Pm's get lost in the pile :P
eBay could be an option get a cheap set to refurb then you'd have colour choice too :innocent:
-
Ok so I finally managed to get down to see Alex yesterday at AKS Tuning and get some more goodies fitted to my car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg7_zpsd567a3b2.jpg&hash=5da48526fd8a2a8ce42bb5d2c07112b059724ab8)
First up was to fit a full BCS zorst, as you can see below its a lovely looking system and a true 76mm all the way except for a cheeky 90mm down pipe and some sexy black tips :innocent:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg2_zpse4f06f92.jpg&hash=f128fa56794b0f6b53b7116ca9907277bfe9524b)
Quick shot of the old system still on the car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg1_zps6923937d.jpg&hash=d852726996e13bea8e5c6ebc76c3f11633814775)
Was impressed with it as it sounded deeper than my GTI's standard exhaust and comes with a kind of powervalve flap that opened up when you floored it making it sound even better
Then the BCS system was fitted and was pretty much spot on alignment wise off the bat so no need for loads of tweaking just some fine tuning spacing the tips on the valance and poke was perfect
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg5_zps522aec9e.jpg&hash=403a2371f0391bf2db1086050daab391940180c6)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg6_zps301ad094.jpg&hash=a222d3726b342ef4eb3db15d76650e10feaadcca)
Think you'll agree it looks huge in comparison and didn't disappoint on startup with some light revving I was very happy
It's got a lovely deep burble and breaks up nicely as you raise the revs slightly with an addictive overrun
Once a slight adjustment was made this is how the tips ended up, nice and tucked with not too much poke
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg9_zpsad147213.jpg&hash=b0da9b3c9917b84648ee23f7a291a5a39878073f)

Then Alex fitted some red R8 coil packs, IGK spark plugs and RS4 FPRV before loading on the revo stage 2+ linear map file
After some logging on the road she was set up and ready for a test drive.... Wow is all I can say :congrats:
Alex did a great job and I'm over the moon with how the car feels on the road, stunningly quick and has torque all over the place and just keeps on pulling hard till I run out of road :signLOL:
Looking forward to getting down to santa pod and see what difference in time it's made as I ran a 13.2 at stage 1 so should see high 12s
Thanks for looking
Dave

Looks sweet... But no numbers? What power is you S3 pushing?

Looks sweet... But no numbers? What power is you S3 pushing?
Was setup and logged on the road not on rollers so will have to wait till the next surrey RR to get actual figures but should be between 340-360bhp as that seems the average :happy2:

About time dave  looks good mate be good to see it at the weekend

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpsbd8ebab0.jpg&hash=878dd665e1168ac1cbe28a208c97c5c4571d2970)
Ended up being an all day marathon but at the end of it the car looked and handled spot on
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps3e1568d7.jpg&hash=5f047433b04a01b8cc37fd4dfc0948fb0aecdcdb)

Now that was all I had planned for quite a while but I've got two friends on here that are bad influences plus Alex was tempting me with all sorts of goodies :signLOL:
So a deal was made and a kind of mini group buy set up for this little lot to be fitted
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps60135a10.jpg&hash=3ef90767dd463e48bfa3421e3f18668ac45afcef)
So my engine bay went from this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zps1439c4a0.jpg&hash=4b3cc2d7d2586852a982095d8740c13cb7d5792e)
To this :pomppomp:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimage_zpsc461ad22.jpg&hash=a296106449269dbf38164b327d26b00331bdd75c)

Loving this, keep up the good work!

Cheers mate :happy2:

What about black mirrors Dave?
If mine wasn't Phantom black, I'd have done them in gloss Phantom black
-
Very nice s3 mate
-
What about black mirrors Dave?
If mine wasn't Phantom black, I'd have done them in gloss Phantom black
Doubt I'll change the mirrors as it's a feature of the S3 having silver ones
Still thinking about getting the rear diffuser and middle of the front spoiler either painted or wrapped black
Not sure whether to get gloss or Matt black now though cos of the exhaust tips

Fair enough, that's true. I just love the contrast of the black on silver and the mirrors would be a silvery' colour anyway on a silver S3 :P That's all I was thinking :signLOL:
A gloss black painted diffuser would look superb IMO. There's a couple on audi-sport running that I think.
Car looks superb though :happy2:

Yeah very true they'd be silver which ever model it was :signLOL:
Seen a few on audi-sport net too that look great
The slippery slope seems to be a lot steeper with this car than my last :signLOL:

Looks nice

Had my car MOT'd today which it passed as I expected but did make me laugh as the tester had put 2 rather odd advisories which made me laugh
1. Under trays fitted obscuring some underside components
2. Engine cover fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay
Now as far as I'm aware any under trays fitted to my car are factory fitted by audi and the same on all modern day cars and the audi tts engine cover I have fitted is smaller than the standard one that also came fitted as standard :stupid: :signLOL:
Only noticed these after I had driven off and couldn't be asked to drive back to question them but made me laugh non the less
-
I've always had them for the under-trays, standard thing, as they aren't allowed to remove parts to check.
-
Was surprised as I never got one in 5 years of owning the GTI and I always go to the same place :signLOL:
-
Under the lodgic of not being able to remove parts to check, just fabricate covers for everything then they can't check anything. Got my MOT Saturday so will see how it goes...
-
Should fab up a whole under car skid plate like rallye cars have, imagin there faces :signLOL:

My MOT station pit similar too. Bit odd almost cars have plastic under trays and engine covers.
Mine also had a adv. for high level brake light..., but still passed
-
Not much of an update just been enjoying driving the car :driver:
I've definitely noticed it suffers from heat soak a lot more than my Gti did, which I'm putting it down to the extra power and heat produced
This recent hot weather has not helped and I'm seriously considering upgrading the inter cooler to something a bit more capable
Apr is out the window as it's way over priced
THS are supposed to be decent
Air tec are another I've heard good things about and peron are apparently decent just unsure which to go for
I'd be getting a direct replacement rather than an additional front mount
Any other suggestions or experience would be helpful
Thanks
Dave
-
Im probably going for Airtec, you could get one supplied by AmD to save some postage..?
-
Eurojet & Wagner are worth a look :happy2:
-
wow some excellent up grades Dave :happy2:
-
Have a look at the Peron cooler Alex is currently testing

Thanks Andy been a very quick build compared to my golf I'm nearly all done already lol

Yeah keeping a close eye on that mike looks really good so far just waiting on Alex's verdict

We all say we are done as i did until i saw your front brakes :signLOL:

I think they're getting a bit too common for my liking now
Need to call Alex and tell him to stop bloody selling more :fighting: :signLOL:

Had my wheels balanced yesterday as I had some vibration coming through the steering wheel at motorway speeds, was having a cuppa when the guy came over and asked me to come take a look at something :scared:
Followed him into the workshop and was shown one of my wheels has a very slight buckle :sad1:
The air went blue as I cursed our crap roads and bloody pot holes :fighting:
Am I right in thinking it can be fixed or is it more cost effective to just replace the wheel?
Thanks for any help
Dave
-
I would imagine a buckled one piece alloy can't be fixed? Also, would you trust a repaired alloy on 300bhp+? I wouldn't...
-
Yeah you're right there :happy2:
Got some CTS pipes ready to go on but just waiting as I'm unsure which cooler to go for now

Coolers are almost ready.

Swap the TD Pro Race 1.2's for something a bit less common, break the mould. Seems like a good time while one is broken...
-
the s3 was looking amaziny the other day ! :happy2:
need boot pop tho lol
-
Cheers Alex :drinking:
Don't know how I lived without that sonax bsd  stuff is amazing
Really is about finding the right products and that they all don't do the same thing :signLOL:
Dave
-
Wow!
-
wait till you give it a machine polish and wax before you use BSD :happy2:
and Dave this thread needs new clean pictures of your s3

We need a Lakeside KFC meet again just before or after Christmas ideally. Would be good to see what people have been up to lately.

Well finally got hold of some proper car cleaning equipment after a few visits to @DANBOY66 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8622)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg1_zpse0be143f.jpg&hash=ad5eb1713999221d225442fc3b19f1bfef708f33)

So much easier and quicker, not to mention safer on the paintwork
Here's how my car looked after a good covering
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz396%2FLittle_Dave%2Fimagejpg3_zps821f8d77.jpg&hash=fad19910dc696d471939dc3b015e2750946776ec)
And that was after 5 minutes of dwelling, haven't got any final results pics as I was running out of daylight :sad1:
Current cleaning method is
Rinse car
Snow foam
Agitate with valet pro brush around sills etc
Bilberry my wheels and agitate with wheel woollies
Rinse car
Two bucket method using chemical guys wash n gloss shampoo
Rinse car
Dry car off
Ran out of time and the car was only waxed not long ago so just topped up with some sonax bsd, poor boys on the wheels, Meg's endurance the tires and some Meg's glass cleaner
Comments or advice welcome
Dave

Bang on mate :happy2:
you are getting the bug
and you know it makes sense to look after a nice car properly
and in the better weather months we will machine polish the car to make it look even better :happy2:
-
Definitely got the bug and I blame you entirely :signLOL:
Be interesting to get some figures on Monday of what power I'm getting finally :jumpmove:
Machine polishing sounds great :drinking: but will no doubt cost me more money if I get the hang of it :notworthy:
Just hope the rollers are kind and don't ruin me :fighting:
Dave
-
Well today was the moment of truth wondering what power my car was making once and for all :driver:
Arrived at Surrey rolling road just before 1, after struggling to find it amongst all the buildings :signLOL:
Was very happy with the results of the runs, pulled 348bhp on the first run and 353bhp on the second with 345ftlbs torque :happy2:
I'll let justin reveal his figures himself but they were consistent with his previous dyno at rtech
Just a shame james didn't put his ttrs on for a run
Dave
-
good figures mate :happy2: when you get the Peron intercooler, Cts boost pipes and a map tweak its going to be even better
:driver:
-
Ha ha maybe next time. Good to see you yesterday mate. Car looked sweet. Love the choice of wheels :happy2:
Def need a sunday afternoon drive out somewhere when its a bit warmer :driver:
-
lovely car :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:
