It depends on your headunit, if it is an aftermarket 'camera ready' stereo then you can get a number plate camera for under £20, some decent wire and a better shielded video cable for a fiver then you're set.

If you have an OEM HU then the camera cost is way more.

I have had both sensors and cameras and see the merits in both, if you can get the OPS display on the screen then it is even better than just a beep.

Really depends on the head unit you got! I've got the kenwood dnx520vbt and am in the process of fitting a basic cheap pal/NTSC camera (about £30) sensors isn't really an option on this unit. If you have an rns510 then you have more options

For 12v & ground just any old slim copper cable, for the video cable one like ebay 380849435943 is better than the spaghetti that cameras come with.

I don't have one in my ED30 but in tdi had a few cameras, they don't last long before a bulb goes out or the lens gets a chip and steams up due to low sitting position, so changing them yearly for ~£15 isn't too bad.

You can get a cheapo camera and a conversion box from Kufatec for £130(?) to convert the cheapo camera language into the RNS510 language, if you don't want to go down the boot handle camera route.

Nice one skard! Was guna get the can that's mounted in the number plate surround? Unless you can recommend a different/better camera? So with that RCA lead, I need to remove the supplied one and replace with this? Sorry for the questions but bit new to this!

They are much of a muchness, look for one that is CCD not CMOS.
They come with a video cable, I'm suggesting buy a better one seperately

As above says plus Ed offers both support and quality products which are OEM but cheaper - RV camera is by far the easier and quicker and since you've got the HU go the extra mile! :happy2:

Let me know how you get on with this, I've got the same head unit and wouldn't mind seeing how it turns out.

I put a camera in my mates van, he had the same HU as you before getting the 921DAB - just the same as a camera install on any other aftermarket for VW stereo really.
Install any old PAL/NTSC camera, run the video cable to HU and either power the camera from the HU or reversing lights (also tap into number plate lights if you have a number plate light type), set it up in the menu and that's it.

Any chance of a link to the one you fitted?

No idea what he bought as the T5.1 has a different number plate light to a Golf.

Any listed as a Golf fitment will likely fit - they all just have a video output, 12v and ground.

Good point! I'll get on eBay and have a search,  :happy2:
