Two weeks on from selling my Edition 30 i cannot find a car to replace it . The ED30 had something about it , something that ownership of it gives you a good feeling just in owning it . The trouble is that i need the new car to be quite practical and be possible to fit a towbar or hidden towbar . I have a sort of shortlist of Audi Allroad , X3 , X5 , Audi Quattro Avant , 3 Series Estate , Audi S4 Estate , Mercedes C Class Estate . None of them really gives me the feeling i had with the ED30 , apart from the S4 Estate . I dont want to be paying the £490 Road tax either as i will be only doing 3k a year max ....
Have considered a MK7 GTI and a ED35 but they don't give me the "Feeling" of owning something special
So is there actually a car that exists that could give me the same feeling ?
RS4's i have considered too , but no towbar for them too .
Budget , preferably around £20k but upto £30k if something special

Audi TTRS .... With a towbar lol

I spent the best part of 6 months deciding on what car to buy having sold my Range Rover.
With a good budget and most cars within financial reach only one stood out and that was the Ed30.
It by far the best and most practical car I have owned and I have owned a fair few.
I would have kept the Ed30 and perhaps would have purchased a mk4 Golf with a tow bar.
It be interesting to see where you go from here.
Good luck :happy2:

Buy another edition 30?
-
Mercedes C63 AMG :happy2:

I was going to suggest the same but road tax isn't cheap
-
Neither is the fuel bill! I'm going to replace my ED30 with a Mk6 Golf R me thinks
-
B8 s4 avant black edition?
have you test driven one?
-

I'd buy a mk6 R because it looks really purposeful, but it's blunt to drive compared to the Ed30.

X2.
To make a 4WD as much fun as an Ed30, you need to throw some serious power through those rear wheels. :driver:
A stock Golf R wouldn't really make the grade. Stage 2+ would be great off the line, but would lose out to a stage 2+ ed30 from a rolling start with the weight of all the 4WD running gear
-
If it was me and I had 20-30K to spend, I would buy 2 cars; One practical car for using the towbar and another for being nice to drive
I dunno how you can complain about the RS4 road tax when you are able to afford to spend £30k on a car :stupid: lol
I'd maybe get an ED30 and an A4 avant?
-
BTW that didn't mean to come across as if I was sticking my nose into your money situation etc, just my opinion mate

Thats Fine , i hate paying any tax , hence not wanting to pay £490 when i don't have to , the cost of the car is secondary , its the cost to run it thats costly to me as i don't work anymore :P
Anyway has anyone ever driven a Twisted Land Rover Defender , what was it like ? and yes i know they are £490 Road Tax !

Surely only in bone dry weather? I know, well I don't drive fast on the damp roads but to still press your foot down without worrying about wheel spinning must be nicer in the R than a ed30?
-
I can confirm the R in the pissing rain sticks like sh*t on a blanket no matter how hard you hit the throttle. :driver:

My FIL had an diesel X3 with a bi-turbo upgrade....my word that thing was fast :driver: :driver: :driver: :jumping:

How about a e90 m3 saloon with dct box.. :happy2:
-
MK7 Golf R, DSG model can be had for around £29K if you shop around :happy2:

Having driven a new 63reg Q5 today i think that the below mentioned car will be my next one , having viewed the reviews on it they appear to be the lowest depreciating car for sale today in the UK , they retain around 72% iof their original value after 3 years
So what do you reckon ?

I'll be honest, I think the Q5 is hideous and if it wasn't for checking the rear badge I'd struggle to remember whether I'd bought a Q3/5 or 7, they all look like the design team started with the Q7 then just photocopied the plans at 75% and then 50%
-
I'd get a deloren :signLOL:
-
RS3 early ones can be had for about £30K now remap 410 bhp and a sub 4 Sec 0-60 time and don't think a Tow Bar would be out of place on one either

Wait and get an R400!! Gulp!! What a car. :notworthy:

I would go for a golf r in my opinion, sound sooo good
-
Not much out there but I'd consider an RS3 or what's about an M135i
Both good cars

What about a volvo, something like a s40, v40, good choice in engines, d4 2.0 5 cylinder diesel, 177bhp 295 ftlb, with massive remap figures, stage 1 ecu removal/remap,boosts it to 215bhp and 340ftlb, still achieving 43mpg average.
Or a choice of the t engine engines masses of power with decent mpg.

How about this one

I really like the Q5, had one for 3 days whilst the wife decided what she wanted
