Title: My 'R' on track! [PIC HEAVY + VIDEO]
Post by: metaljay on April 24, 2014, 06:48:18 pm
Thought id show some photos of my track session yesterday at Donington GP Circuit.

Sorry about the quality, had to compress them heavily for uploads.

Overall the car handled really well, Even with me skidding it in the video (first lap in rain haha)
Although as I'm going nurburgring in June, ill be upgrading my brakes before i go (Hey Snape ;)  )

Wish mine was DSG  :sad1:

Sounds great. Where / how did you mount your camera?

Thanks guys, yeh the DSG makes driving it so easy! The fart it makes when I change gear is amazing too!

Just a suction cup on my sunroof with an external mic outside my boot.

Car looks and sounds good buddy  :happy2: Id have a Rocco R all day long if it dint have such a small boot  :fighting:  Love DSG for trackwork though.  My cars manual now and Id happily go back to a DSG car.

With your driving, try not to shuffle your hands on the steering wheel when steering through a bend, its bad practice and will put your hands in a compromising position if you get oversteer or a slide.

Dependant on your steering wheel design you want your hands at either "quarter to three" or "ten to Two" position when going straight ahead, apart from a very tight hairpin you should be able to keep them pretty much in that position.  You should only ever need to shuffle the hands on the steering wheel if the car requires alot of turns to lock the wheels, the Rocco is OK in this respect though.

Wish mine was DSG  :sad1:

Mike I made one of these for my car

Haha thanks for the advice! I hopefully will be doing another one soon, just need to get my confidence back again lol.

I did genuinely sh*t myself when I spun it first time. Fortunately it wasn't on video and no one was near me...

At one point I hit the gravel and went on the grass haha.

I booked it with Javellin Track days, a friend recommended them to me.

I really appreciate the advice, so keep it coming lol

We all go off on trackdays mate, i do it on most trackdays not by being stupid, just minor misjudgements, I think Mike even has a vid of me going off at silverstone  :innocent:.  Javelin trackdays are very good and iMO very well ran.  I have used much more expensive companies such as Circuit Days and Gold Track and they are not as approachable or friendly in my experience.

my advice would be to book an instructor (typically £20 ish) for a 20 min session on each track you do at the start of the day (be quick they sell out fast!)  you will be amazed at how much faster you become in those 20 mins.

I had to sell my DSG because i kept falling a sleep at the wheel, so boring for day to day driving

I had paid for a guy to come with me (whom you see in the passenger seat), he is alot more experianced than me.

The DSG is ideal for day to day driving, but when i get a good bit of road i switch it to manual and use the flappy padels :D

Thanks Janner, id love to do silverstone next, maybe before germany :)

I just have the standard single pot R brakes, im hoping to have AKS tunings Astin martin brake setup from a friend

Theres a few things ive got on my wish list, just not sure which first.

H&R anti roll bars
Revo engine mounts
Super pro wishbones
Forge catch can

Certainly is, your lucky to have such a lovely car at a young age! Try and add a full polybush kit to the list also, I'm a dealer so I can hook you up too.

But love the Rocco R, so rare as well.

What do you mean a polybush kit? I had one fitted when i had my exhaust done at AKS. What else is there to change?

you can poly bush nearly every bush in your car, stiffens it all up real nice.
