Title: Tyre choice / recommendations
Post by: N44LED on May 02, 2014, 07:22:26 pm
Hi guys in the next month or two unfortunately going to have to purchase new shoes for the golf.

The last time I bought tyres for it was 6 yrs ago which was the original Michelin pilot sport which they were on my previous car for 3 yrs and now on the golf for 3 they've done 45,000 and in between that 2 track days. They still have 3mm on the front and 2mm on the rear and the only reason for changeling them is there cracking slightly plus think its time to change.

So can any one recommend a tyre that's as good as these. I've been looking at the pilot super sports and eagle f1s  any recommendations and experiences would be great

Thanks

Aled

Eagle F1's are such a good road tyre, had them on my car for a while and always loved them!

Nope dan930 I honestly haved had well close to 6 years any way about 5yrs 9months

Because I haven't had to buy tyres for such a time I don't know what the good alternative to what I got is and I have been so pleased and still am with them at the time I did pay £150 corner. The super sports thoe are a little dear from my usual tyre dealer there 172 a corner and the f1s are 128 so would save a lot

Eagle F1s are superb for the money, but will try Supersports next time round.

so Michelins are famous for long life, so they cost more.
is this true of PS3/supersports? will they last longer than F1's?

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 in 225 - 45 - 17 / 94Y are a shade over £90 each delivered. Then factor in some quids for fitting and they're about £100 is a corner.

Not tried the Goodyears, and although everyone raves about them on here I always go with Michelins as well. I don't see any need in trying something else to prove my choice of Michelins is right. Last time I did that I bought Continentals on the strength of other peoples recommendations. They lasted 8k miles for the set. I'm not doing that again...

previously had conti 3's on the front any they're still going on the back with 6mm tred, long lasting and quiet but grip was pretty piss poor.

Picked up some PS3's this week and I'm mega impressed with the grip, especially in the wet... not more wheel spinning in 3rd haha

This morning had 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 2's  :happy2:
2nd full set that I have had. They are awesome.

I like the Pirelli P-Zero's as well for amazing grip in the wet and dry, but they do have a tendancy to sawtooth on the back and they are quite noisey.

Is this for 17's (225 45 17)? If it is you could get a decent tyre fitted cheaper than that, I had Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 fully fitted for £92 each on mine.
