If I happened to have the Official VW dvd map v8 that a friend has, would I be able to just insert this into my RNS510 to update my maps?
-
Yep.
-
Ok tried it but nothing happens
-
When you say nothing happens, do you mean it spits the dvd out, it just ignores the dvd and carries on using the previous maps, or what?
What version maps are you currently running?
-
RNS510 PART NUMBER 1t0035680D
HW Version H04
SW Version 3810
Mao version 7690
The VW navteq DVD I have is V8
part numbers on dvd disc: 1to919859B 7 1t0051859t
I switch ignition to on, sat nav comes on, insert the disc....nothing, can here the disc spin up but then stops

You can try a reset.
Power on the unit, wait til it's up and away, then press and hold the Left track change button, Right track change button, and the Star button. These are at the top of the screen, two arrows on the left, star on the right, and hold til the unit powers off. Then when it starts up again, insert the map cd.

Ok thanks for info Viking, I'll go & try that now.
Only thing is my RNS has the speaker/i button & not the star button.
-
Then use that instead. But your unit is not a D revision as you said, the firmware has been updated at some point and it's actually an A or B revision (or possibly an early C).
-
Ok thanks again for the version info as i was thinking of updating firmware to 5869 as i thought it was a D version, will remove it & check version.
Tried the reset, reset RNS ok but still nothing happens.
Disc spins then stops.

No error messages when you try and remove the disc? Like telling you map data is being downloaded or anything?
There#s a way of deleting the maps (formatting the maps partition) on the hard disc, but if you do this and then can't load the new maps on then you'll be snookered.
Whereabouts are you?
-
No error msgs
Just says ejecting nav dvd
Im in aberdeen
-
Hmm, not sure then. I'd suggest trying another disc, see if that works, and after that it's either bite the bullet and reformat and try again, or live with it as is.
-
No probs
I have a link for version 10, do you know if this will work with my version?
-
Ah, I see what's going on. You're mistaking the Version number with the Maps number.
V10 maps are numbered 8048.
V9 maps are numbered 7918.
These are examples of the numbering system, and you have "V9 number 7690" on your unit at the moment. So it appears as though you're trying to load V8 "really old maps" onto a later V9 equipped system, so it's never going to accept that as an upgrade.
Download and install the V10 maps, as that's the latest ones.

Ahhh right lol
Ok will attempt upgrade to version 10 at the wknd, fingers crossed.
Cheers for help
